I’ve recently been filling gaps in my Bruce Broughton collection and happened upon this score thinking it would be a small orchestral tv soundtrack. Wow! Complete opposite - big powerful western score. Strong thematic ideas throughout. Lovely main theme. Generous selection of aggressive action and suspense. This one is getting a lot of play at the moment. Worth checking out if you like Broughton in big western scoring mode.
Yes, there's a few Broughton's on Intrada that are nice, big, powerful Americana scores. O' Pioneers is grand too. And Roughing It. There are probably others I've forgotten. Can't go wrong with BB.
This is actually my favorite Broughton western score. There are tracks in Silverado I feel like skipping, and even a few in Tombstone. But with this one I listen to every single cue. Love every theme. Would happily buy an expansion if there’s more to be had.
Having missed out on this one the first time around, I'd love to see Intrada do reissues of True Women, Roughing It, and O Pioneers -- all three are excellent western/Americana scores from Broughton.
