I wonder why Varese slowed down the Zimmer releases. Did he become too big for them? Basically, yes. Once he got to the point where he had his pick of tentpole projects, those projects were the type with mainstream soundtrack releases that big studios tend to keep in-house. It really exploded once he started working with Nolan.

They were also going to do "It's Complicated" back in December 2009, but it got cancelled as fast it was announced because of the brevity of the score which also had additional music by Henry Jackman and Heitor Pereria. I think Zimmer stated that he didn't record enough music for the film to warrant a physical CD or something. It did come out as a FYC Oscar promo though with the same contents as the version that's available as a download from Back Lot Music. I wish this had come out myself with the additional music because it is a very nice score. Same situation happend two years earlier with "Lucky You" Christopher Young's score that they also announced and he cancelled it because he felt that the 26 Minutes in the film he recorded were not a good listening experience even though he did release a promo that had everything he recorded that was intended for the film. At least that came out in some form.

There COULD have been a Varèse OST. It's probably a whole different reason that made this release not happen...

Am I the only one who enjoys Renaissance Man? I really dig that score.

Am I the only one who enjoys Renaissance Man? I really dig that score. I used to have it, but I sold it. The track Serving Your Country was very nice though, with Malcolm McNabs trumpet.

Good topic Milan was also THE key label in exposing Zimmer's talent. Paperhouse, A World Apart, Fools of Fortune, Castaway, My Beautiful Laundrette, Fruit Machine, Burning Secret, Diamond Skulls and Backdraft. What a list of great scores (especially Paperhouse)... Yes, Fruit Machine, Burning Secret and Diamond Skulls are on the same disc. Was Castaway and Launderette really on Milan? Nine Months, Beyond Rangoon and Broken Arrow are also on Milan. I guess some later ones too.

There COULD have been a Varèse OST. It's probably a whole different reason that made this release not happen... That's what was posted on Varese's site at the time and then eventually pulled not long after on the old Upcoming Release page. I was disappointed that it wasn't done. Well, apprently he has control over his projects, so it was his choice not do it, not Varese's. We're lucky 17 Minutes was released digitally by Back Lot Music. If you want know how much control he has just ask MV at La-La Land when they wanted to expand The Last Samurai and nixed the idea himself to their disappointment. I know that's in one of the older threads because he said himself. There's a reason why Bird On A Wire hasn't surface either and now this is the score's 30th Anniversary this year. That's why I posted Lucky You as an example because apperently Christopher Young was against his own release that he knew no one would be happy with, so he didn't do it and he stated so in the notes of the promo he released. Renaissance Man is a fun score. I wish there was more of it. I don't remember much missing but it is a very solid album. I'm waiting for an expanded Drop Zone to come out, that's missing some excellent action material, not the album didn't have some of the best of it already.
