Does anyone know the story behind Young's involvement? Was he hired later or hired first? The Shore track samples are nice but also reminiscent enough of Young's sound that I wondered if it was either temped with Young or previously scored by him. Maybe just surface similarities but I got a distinctly Youngian vibe.
From the precious Torn Music : Rejected Film Scores book, Chris Young came late into the process to rescore the finale after re-shootings. It is unsaid if Shore was called back and couldn't rework or didn't want to rework his own score.
I don't think I can quote the book because of some copyright issues -- and honestly, everybody should own this book, it's really pleasant to read and so informative.

I think Paramount was trigger happy in that era, cos' they did Takemitsu's RISING SUN the same way (Richard Marriott additional music), and JENNIFER 8 of course.

Rising Sun is a 20th Century Fox release if I remember correctly, at least it was here in Europe.

I'm sure it's covered in the notes in some fashion, but as I recall this film had a very troubled history and it went though a number of changes and they went back and filmed several different endings.
As I recall Chris was called in at the last minute since either Howard Shore was unavailable or They thought a new compose for the final endingr might SAVE the film.
I'm happy for this release and it does plug holes in both Howard Shore's and Chris Young's catalog.
