PD, Richard III is great - that long track (“The Road to London” or something like that, I’m out and about so can’t check) has accompanied me on repeat whilst decorating on many and many an occasion.

Almost- 'journey to'. Yup. Agood one , a little different from him. Now, though, more familiar territory-

I have played the new album called Cinema Rarities for Violin and String Orchestra. A fascinating listen from start to finish. A great album to remember the musical genius of the Maestro.

I can see the next compilation

...Morricone Segreto...Music to Decorate By.

I’m cursed where DIY is concerned, in that I can do most things that don’t involve electrics or plumbing, but I don’t enjoy it. One thing that made wallpapering or floor-laying tolerable was playing long Morricone tracks. A CD with Journey to London, Others Who Follow Us, Revolver and other long, hypnotic tracks would be welcome!

Just watched the Sky documentary about Sergio Leone. It was great to see and hear Ennio talking about his friend.

It also made me regret once more that Sergio was lost to us before he could make his film about the siege of Leningrad. The opening shot was described as a close up on the hands of Shostakovich playing his piano score of the 7th Symphony. Bringing my two favourite composers together in such a way would have been a dream come true.

I didn't know that Wolfgang Rihm had fairly recently praised Ennio Morricone:

"At the same time, fellow composers from contemporary music express great admiration for Morricone. In a conversation with Peter Trawny, Wolfgang Rihm recently praised the Italian's "great melodic inventiveness" and the "harmonic irritability" that his music shows. And Helmut Lachenmann once said that he had arranged all the melodies from Morricone's film scores for piano for his son."

Does anyone know when “Ennio,” the 2021 Tornatore documentary, will be available to stream or buy on dvd/blu-ray in a version compatible with US disc players and with English subtitles? My wife and I got so excited when we first saw the preview but haven’t been able to access the actual film.

Soon! Music Box Films acquired distribution rights here in the US and will be putting it out in theatres early next month, with home video release 'soon after.' So even if it doesn't come to a theatre near you then it should be available in the coming months!

I saw it in a local cinema back in November 2022 (I think). Truly a great documentary. As I recall it is over 2 hours long but in the end you wish it was longer! You see both interviews and also clips with important score snippets from various films including several of those hard-to-find titles such as 'I Cannibali'.
