The notes only say that the score was to be transported to America for mixing and mastering, but it was the same week as 9/11, so the lock-down meant they were taken privately, via Mexico, then driven to California. No one knows where they were for the last 19 years and then the notes just say they went back to the original tapes and did a brand new mix-down for this premiere CD issue.

This came late this afternoon. Just finished playing it. It's not bad, though I do think some excellent orchestral/ choral writing is spoilt a tad by some cheap pop style drums. A few more listens I think, maybe I'll warm to it a bit more.

Remember when 1000 copies of something like this would sell out in less than 24 hours? I don't miss those days (although I'm sure the labels do) but it's hard to believe that nowadays, 500 copies will remain in stock for quite some time. Yes, I remember missing out on CDs I had really, really wanted that were printed in 3000 copies which sold out in a day, and now a hidden gem like this sticks around with 500 copies for years and even survives a sale. Good for me, I picked this up when Quartet had it sale a couple of months ago and tonight I finally listen to it. Great score, it's Donaggio at his finest. I haven't seen the film (I had not even heard of it), but picked it up because it's Donaggio... and wow, what fine score this is. As much as I'm glad to have snatched a copy, it says a lot about today's CD business and even the collector soundtrack market that such fine scores don't even sell 500 copies in two years. Anyone who likes Donaggio should have this one.
