I bought this score on LP, back in the 80's (probably for the cover) I never did pick up a CD copy, although I remember liking the music, especially the main theme. Anyway, poking around Amazon & Ebay, as you do, I came upon either a CD-R/on-demand 'remastered' edition for around £15, or a 'used/like new' copy of the Laserlight release, which seemed to contain much more music, for £10. So I bit the bullet and went for the older, pressed CD edition. Just played it through now. It sounded fine to me and some new cues that I'd never heard before were cool. More tension/suspense cues that I don't remember being on the LP, but certainly palatable, by Morricone standards. Lovely main theme (I even like the vocal version performed by little Pia herself). A nice addition to my EM-CD collection and one I will return to.

Kev, congrats on getting this little gem! I love this score (and its cover as well) I have the old edition on Prometheus records (must give it a new spin).

It is a lovely score. The Prometheus and Laserlight editions do have a lot of unreleased music not on the original LP, but on the downside the music is in mono and decidedly inferior to the sound quality on the LP. Even to the extent that some cues. like Hot Tin Tub, sound like different takes. If anyone is in any doubt try listening to the LP recording then the expanded CD through headphones, the difference is startling. I think EM captured very well the steamy atmosphere is this movie When it came out I was determined to see the movie but it was only on in local fleapit, which typically showed soft porn. I think I can safely say I was the only one in there who came out of interest for hearing the score in the film (well that is my story)!

I agree the expanded CD sounds OK through speakers. Have you still got your 1982 LP? If so try listening to it, especially though headphones, comparing the sound to the CD, and let me know what you think. Some of the music sounds very different, they could even be considered alternative takes.

Downloaded this last week. I like it. I liked David's line about finding the film in a cinema that showed soft-porn. I think i saw this on vhs.

OK I had another good listen (through headphones) to both the Prometheus expanded edition and my CDR recording of the French LP from 1982 (mint). If the LP is simulated stereo it is the best effort I have ever heard from any film score recording. The sound range of the music is far more expansive than the mono CD, and the harp and other delicate instruments are really brought to life in the LP recording. I note there was an earlier thread on the score that even I contributed: https://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=54723&forumID=1&archive=0 I'd be interested to hear the views of anyone else that has both recordings and can do a comparison, Henry, Laurent?

I forgot to mention that the vocal of the main theme on the CD is in stereo, and of the same quality as the same track on the LP.

Had another listen to this. Although the score is probably classier than the film, im not surprised it is gathering fans.

What version do you have Bill? The extended one (45 minutes...ALL EM score) or the LP copy (limited EM score + source/songs)?

I think its the long version, too many tracks for an Lp?
