MONDAY, AUGUST 10

AWAY---trailer released for the Netflix miniseries about the first manned mission to Mars starring Hillary Swank.

THE BIG GOODBYE---Ben Affleck is the writer/director of the Paramount Pictures movie based on the novel about the making of Roman Polanski's classic CHINATOWN.

TRON: LEGACY---Australian Garth Davis (LION) has been picked by Walt Disney Pictures to direct the sequel, although Walt Disney has not officially greenlit the sequel that will star Jared Leto.

STAR TREK---new Paramount Pictures movie head Emma Watts has placed all three proposed STAR TREK movies on hold. The first movie, based on Quentin Tarantino's idea, is “based on an episode of the classic ‘Star Trek’ series that takes place largely earthbound in a 1930s gangster setting”. This apparently refers to the "A Piece of the Action" episode where the Enterprise crew visits a planet where the residents are 1920s Chicago-type mobsters. The second movie stalled after Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth walked away from contract negotiations. The third movie, from Noah Hawley, reportedly focuses on a virus that destroys most of the known universe.

JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION---Colin Trevorrow posted a photo hinting DOMINION will feature a return to Isla Sorna.

ZACK SNYDER'S JUSTICE LEAGUE---Zack Snyder released a photo of the original Steppenwolf from the movie.

CSI: VEGAS---William Petersen and Jorga Fox are in negotiations to star in this CBS miniseries sequel to CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION. The miniseries will have four new characters, three will be minorities, although it has not been officially greenlit.

CHUPACABRA---Jonas Cuaron (DESERT) will direct this untitled Netflix movie about the mythical monster and a boy who discovers a young chupacabra in Mexico. They embark on a journey to save its life.

ANDY WARHOL---Jared Leto confirmed he will star in an untitled biomovie about Andy Warhol, “Yes it’s true I will be playing Andy Warhol in an upcoming film. And so grateful and excited about the opportunity. We miss you and your genius”.

THE NEW WILDERNESS---Warner Bros. Television series underway based on the novel about a woman who tries to save her young daughter after a climatic catastrophe.

TRIVIA---more James Bond movie trivia.
German actress Karin Dor's character was killed in two spy movies. In YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, Dor played SPECTRE No.11 Helga Brandt, who is fed to Ernst Stavro Blofeld's carnivorous piranhas when she failed to kill James Bond.
In Alfred Hitchcock's TOPAZ, Dor played Juanita de Cordoba, the widow of a Cuban revolution leader, who is killed by a Cuban leader after he discovers she is really a member of the underground resistance.

Somewhat interested. I'd rather have an important scientific goal/dilemma/problem at hand, rather than just a soft relationship study. But hey... at least the music SUCKS. SUCKS SUcks sucks. Not even effective at emoting what it is meant to. Blah. Ugh. My opinion only.

The trailer for Greenland was far more interesting.

Greenlight it! Greenlight it!

I promise to buy everything TRON associated ever released, multiple copies, and to throw discs around at random passers-by to help promote it.

Ok, no. But a good portion of my just-won-the-lottery black gothic fortress will incorporate TRON lighting.

I was interested until they said Jared Leto.

Also: All those Star Trek movies sound pretty bad. Tarantino's might be the worst but that "plague across the universe" thing ain't gonna fly.

Star Trek died in 2009. Disney is really desperate if they are green lighting Tron 3. Almost guaranteed to go directly to Disney +.

I find this whole Disney thing interesting. Since the Disney channel was the main source for entertainment for kids and families are they going to dump the channel? Because they now have to find the funds to create original content for two outlets. One cable and one streaming. Not to mention ABC.

You want to see (and visitors to see) all the glowing, bodily fluid stains in your house?

THE BIG GOODBYE---Ben Affleck is the writer/director of the Paramount Pictures movie based on the novel about the making of Roman Polanski's classic CHINATOWN.

THE BIG GOODBYE by Sam Wasson is not a novel, actually, but a factual examination of the personalities and works of Roman Polanski, Jack Nicholson and screenwriter Robert Towne, and how their talents converged to shape the making of the film CHINATOWN. It is a thoroughly researched, insightfully written book and a must-read for anyone with an interest in the film makers and/or the film itself.

DANA WILCOX:

The original article I used as a reference said it was a novel.

I was glad you mentioned the book, dragon53, and just wanted to clarify that one point (and let other film fans know about a book worth reading). No criticism intended. I enjoy your postings and appreciate you keeping everybody up on what's happening out there!
