A mate has just told me that German label Turbine are releasing a 4K UHD of this film, which will include the 'score and songs on CD for the first time'. News from their Facebook site.
Yes, that's correct, here's the link to their shop: https://turbine-shop.de/detail/index/sArticle/24310/sCategory/420 The CD is exclusive to this set (which is limited to 2,626 copies) and they answered on Facebook to my inquiry that NO individual CD release is planned...
Well...I guess someone else than Turbine will sooner or later release this score.Just like GHOSTBUSTERS has seen the light of day after 30 years But a bad ass cover I must say.Great. And 56 euro sounds a lot but than again a nice packed box set.I think the price is alright considering that I always have to pay more than 30 euros for almost every CD I order from the labels.
Very intriguing. Hopefully it includes the original recording of the deleted "Metamorphosis" cue, and anything else Bernstein may have recorded that went unused.
It does not. Because on the LP you could read MECO from miles away. When you look closely at the photo, you can even read "Original Motion Picture Score" at the top of the sleeve. But I wonder what this will be, because Bernstein's score was - reportedly - only a couple of minutes long.

You are correct. I should have said the Artwork photo of the two boys was the same. That MECO Logo was HUGE!
I always really liked the brief score for this. Shame i won't be buying this blu release (no 4K TV). Bought this film about 5 times in various forms in the past. Great film, great songs and a lovely little bit of Bernstein. Those who get it are in for a treat, good on 'em.
I think someone here once totted up around 11 minutes* of score as used in the film. I'm sure Elmer wrote more (than the already re-recorded Transformation) that went unused in the film.
I'm not 100% convinced this is what we all HOPE it is. The cover of the CD from this new set though doesn't say MECO in bold letters, it is the same cover. I sent the company a private note and posted a question on their Facebook page asking if this is the MECO album. If I hear back I'll let you all know. They would have needed to license all the songs or a good chunk of them and pay Universal a sizable fee for the score cues. That ain't cheap. Those classic songs are owned by different companies so it depends on what each one would want in return to license it. I'll keep ya updated on what I hopefully find out.
If it is a re-issue of the Meco album, (which did contain a nice rendition of the Elmer Bernstein 'Boys' Theme) and that's how they're passing off their score blurb, there's gonna be some gnashing of fangs and howling at the moon, let me tell ya!!
