So very cool and totally unexpected.

It always drove me crazy that, much as I love Morgan Freeman's voice, hearing him over the best cues in the score on the CD was maddening -- even the FYC CD included the voiceover.

It's a buy. No doubt about it.

Obvious question.
How much score was missing from the original CD?
I'm sure there will be alt versions too.

I wonder about this too but Williams is an exception to my usual preference for (mostly) curated albums as opposed to C&C scores because his albums tend to rethink his scores in a way that can sometimes hide their architecture and development. My guy clearly knows where his bread is buttered and I generally enjoy his albums, but I've come to the realization in the last few years that for me what's missing is beside the point. I want to hear his ideas from point A to point B.

How cool is it that the John Williams score is coming to us from the same label that gave us the Leith Stevens score for the original film? Those'll look nice together on the shelf!

Heartily agree in this case. The album order always bothered me. The Intersection Scene in particular, it should come out of nowhere imo, not follow on from a higher energy action track.

Until you mentioned this, I had totally forgot about Morgan Freeman's narration.

I hated this film so much that I probably listened to the CD only once.

John Williams generally restructures his film scores into stellar albums, but he isn't perfect - Not every OST album is a shining achievement in arrangement.

I think WOTW is one of the least successful OST albums he ever put together. The order the music is presented doesn't do it any favors, the looping and repeating music doesn't enhance anything, and the narration is very bothersome.

Just re-ordering the highlights he chose for the OST into chronological order makes a huge improvement. All the additional cues he elected not to include on the OST really help the score breathe, too.

I was tempted to get the original soundtrack release, but when my favorite part of the score appeared on the 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' soundtrack (Hidden Treasure And The City Of Gold), I didn't bother.

I might try for this release if it does what everyone here hopes it will do.

Another Williams/Spielberg score gets the deluxe treatment. LLL gets most of them but Intrada did a superb job with Jaws. Williams does stellar work on Tom Cruise films as well.
