Cruising the cable stations I was flipping between this and Dark Knight. Kudos to Bryce Dallas Howard. An "A" for effort, and Vincent D'Onofrio as the villain. I remember him in Law & Order and was sensational. He also did Orson Welles way back when in Ed Wood and was exceptional. I thought it was reasonably good but the conclusion with the dinosaurs taking out each other poohey. Yeah Bryce's depth was great. The anchor of the film.

Fallen World was terribly flat if I remember right.

Yeah, flogging a very dead horse.

The first film was great fun. Deeply lacking in well developed or even partially developed characters and memorable performances, but Bryce Dallas Howard definitely shined in her part as you say. Jake Johnson had some great humor in the first one as well, and character- and performance-wise Ted Levine's "great white hunter" Wheatley in the second one was of a quality not seen since Spielberg's first two Jurassic Parks.

The real strength of the first film though was in the fantastic dinosaur action and in all the heartwarming nostalgia poured onto the screen. The second film had fantastic visual spectacle too during the first half on the island, but it was missing the nostalgia and the film's second half tanked hard with its silly auction of arms dealers, clunky political commentary (in a Jurassic Park film???), and dinosaurs running amok around a spooky mansion. None of that sounds good on paper; not sure why they thought it would work on film. The third one looks like it's shaping up nicely though. It's pretty awesome having Grant, Sattler, and Malcolm back and in on the main action.

It's just a badly written film. I liked Jake Johnson and the Indian owner, I wanted more of him. The spectacular death of the assistant should have happened to someone that we actually cared about. So many years to write a script and this was what they thought was best to film? Baffling.

Don't get me ranting about this (rebooted) series. Though I agree the high mark of both films was Bryce Dallas Howard. I love her to death in the remake of Pete's Dragon.

Another great example of how effort can overcome what on paper has no business being any good.

I guess the Jurassic Park movies made Chris Pratt a star. I can see why everyone loves him. With his fun carefree demeanor. But for some reason he annoys me. I think BDH is the driving force behind the reboot.

Pratt's probably the driving force behind Guardians, but here I'll go with $$$ LOL. I'd like to say BDH, but the old in me says they still want a leading man irregardless. Pratt is just sorta 'there' in JW.

I forgot Guardians came out a year earlier. Both films made him a star and household name.

Watching D'Onofrio in Law and Order:CI was a joy to watch, enjoyed the revamped theme.

JP 2- not sure what they were going for there. Maybe Godzilla? I thought it was MOR. A bit odd Neill and Dern didn't return. Some good sets but left me cold. Of the bits I saw part 3 was better.

I think this franchise is as dead as a dinosaur. Let's have the R rated version, a real horror show. Forget the obnoxious kids & baddies & Brice running around in high heels. Make it really dark & scary, with lots of people being ripped apart.
