The Fast and the Furious. 5 - average.

The car stunts were impressive - but I'm not a car guy, so I didn't really care for all the car talk, etc.

Not a movie that was on my list. I purchased it used for $3.50.

2001: A Space Odyssey: 8

My first time seeing this (dodges thrown keyboards). Technically brilliant and engrossing for most of it's running time, but that "Jupiter & Beyond" epilogue threw me. What the hell...?

Paulie

Canya' BELIEVE it???

Paulie

When I watched the trailer for this movie in a theatre years ago, I wrote it off.

NOW, all these years later, a good friend hands me the homevid, and urges me to watch it.

I'm a sap...especially for a time-lapse flick like this one. I laughed, I wept.

I love Paulie. I give it a 10. So sue me.

Quo Vadis....10

the acting's a bit stiff at times, but I love it. The score is great, of course.

Shane (1953) is a timeless, classic western tale - a very familiar and highly regarded seminal western and the most successful Western of the 1950s. The film's rich color cinematography captures the beautiful environment of the legendary frontier, filmed in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, with its gray-blue Grand Tetons as a backdrop

this guy writes better than "I"

The Core - 8
Mindless fun, hokey dialogue, decent action, plot and special effects, and a cast made up primarily of excellent indie film veterans. Essentially the same exact plot as Armageddon, but a colossal, vast improvement. Christopher Young score. (When will this guy hit the big time?) No "BIG NAME STAR" taking all of the credit and attention, meaning that we can actually pay attention to the movie.

Vastly entertaining.

The Christine Jorgensen Story

as a film - 3
as camp - priceless

When this first started, I thought it was a parody or a hommage a la "Far From Heaven," but it's real. I asked this older woman at work and she said it caused quite a stir in the 70's.

Info below from sundance channel:

directed by Irving Rapper

YEAR
1970

89 MINS, Color

If this melodramatic - if not unintentionally camp - biopic about the first American to undergo a sex change operation brings to mind a Bette Davis weepie, perhaps it's no coincidence. Veteran Hollywood director Irving Rapper (NOW VOYAGER, DECEPTION) helms this well-intended adaptation of Jorgensen's best-selling autobiography, sympathetically following George Jorgensen as a boy who prefers dolls to footballs, through his career in the army and his eventual visit to a Danish clinic, where George is surgically transformed into Christine. "The Professionals" (1966) Written/Directed by the great Richard Brooks. Rating: 8.

Nice score by Jarre. Strange that he was on a Westerns kick in the mid to late 60s--As for the film itself, I really enjoyed seeing four of my favorites: Burt Lancaster, Robert Ryan, Lee Marvin and Jack Palance in the same film. Marvin got better with age and he was always such a bad-ass! Lancaster in a funny characterization. Whenever I see Robert Ryan in his later films I'm reminded of Eddie Muller's FANTASTIC book on "Film Noir", "Dark City". When discussing Ryan's career and his role in "The Wild Bunch", Muller wrote: "He and William Holden engaged in a Mexican stand-off over which of the two craggy veterans projected a more bone-tired weariness."
We just don't have actors like these guys anymore!

The Sea Hawk. I give it a... uhh, I don't know, an 8. Somewhere in there!

It was my first time watching it, as much as I hate to admit it in this crowd. (Dodging some objects surely being thrown at me right about now.) But I certainly got a kick out of it!

That quippy dialogue is what I love most about films from the 40's, and Errol Flynn is the perfect sayer-of-pithy-lines. Korngold's score didn't function as I expected it to – pulled its weight, but didn't shine as much. Definitely need to dig up some old pirate movies, though, and black and white ones in general. There's so much class! Ahh!

Winged Migration: 9.

I would've given it a 10, but the sappy New Age music that wouldn't end is pretty annoying, and there's some boring narration by some heavily-accented French guy, too.

But it's still a terrific film. Go see it, and be amazed.

"Are we talkin' about Paulie Shore here???"

NO!

Paulie 1998

Starring Tony Shalhoub, Gena Rowlands, Cheech Marin, Bruce Davison, Jay Mohr, Buddy Hackett & Hallie Kate Eisenberg.

It's a "Children's Book" movie (rather like Stuart Little) all about the title character, a talking parrot.
An enchanting story, a great cast, fine direction, and a wonderful score by John Debney propels this kiddie film into the realm of "Cult Classic", in MY Never-To-Be-Humble Opinion.
MY FAVORITE MOMENT: When The Original Willard(Bruce Davison) is confronted by...a rat. One of those "nudge-nudge-knowhatimean" movie moments that'll give older filmgoers a good belly laugh!

This is a lot of fun!

Hollywood Homicide--6

And it's only that high due to the charisma of the actors (including Lena Olin and Lolita Davidovich, as well as the two male leads). As far as the story goes, I didn't give a damn. And the rap music on the soundtrack is horrid...

"Hollywood Homicide--6"

...and that's where it opened last Friday...at number 6 on the boxoffice chart.

Very disappointing performance for Mr. Ford, especially after that K-19 stinkbomber.

He must be BEGGING Lucas & Spielberg to get Indy 4 going!!!

This is sad...
