In an auction, the BIDDERS set the final price, not the Seller. So how can this be a case of GREED? If someone is willing to pay a large sum of $$$ for a disc you spent $19.98 Plus shipping on, why not take their money?

Not necessarily. The seller can have an extremely high reserve to ensure that a major profit is involved.

Look, if sellers want to hawk their copies of "Inferno" for vast sums of money and buyers want to pay ludicrous amounts, that's fine. Just don't go blabbbing here that you have bought a reserve copy in case something "happens" to your playing copy. Be honest and admit you've bought a second copy because you know once a limited release sells out, you can make a fortune from it.

I have a few of the Varese Club Ltd Cd's, but I have them for my enjoyment of the film, not for selling on ebay, well not until the finances get squeezed. But a question you raise for me is what are the hard to find "must have" film scores ? Real or "Bootleg".

Smile when you say that. It's a good thing.

...meanwhile (back to the plot), I have both releases of this score, Varesa on LP and Silva on CD. I prefer the Varesa version as it has, as far as I can remember, a few less of those electronic whooshes (for want of a better description) in it. These whooshes do send a shiver up my spine but unfortunately for all the wrong reasons (I generally play this score when no one is around). Don't get me wrong I think Supergirl has some good music in otherwise I would not of bought it twice. However, the main reason for the Silva re-purchase was for the Monster Storm track, my favourite of the score (LP got a little worn). Unfortunately the Silva release has an alternate version which I have to say, IMHO, is not a patch on the Varesa version. For what it's worth ...

The VARESE release used early versions of the cues without the electronics mixed in properly on tapes marked "Do Not Use".

The ironic thing is that the SILVA CD uses the cues as they were recorded for the film with the electronics included as the composer wished and presented the score pretty much as it's heard in the film.

Oh well.

I have both the Varese and Silva CDs and I much prefer the Silva editions for all the reasons that many other people dislike it.

I love the extra cues - especially the Phantom Zone stuff - and the electronic wooshes which added a HUGE amount of character to the score.

BTW I bought the Varese CD at Silva Screen for £11.99. Granted, that was back in 1988 but still...! :-)

If you have the original Varese disc, and Silva's, keep um' both..The Varese disc's art is much better, and also has the hilarious flaw (The Statue of Liberty with the torch in the wrong hand!!)Also, the Twin Towers are the backround...

I intend to! :-) Two very different interpretations of the same material and yes, as you say, the Varese disc has a very nice cover (the Silva cover was also used on the video releases of the film over here).

It just goes to show that you can't please everybody all the time and I can't believe I spelt VERESE wrong.

This time was deliberate, a sort of joke ... well like a joke but not so funny.

I saw someone mentioned Ayn Rand in a Supergirl thread and the automatic nerd reflex kicked in. While Googling for a picture of Rand in a Supergirl outfit I ran across this and got distracted.
