As a film score fan, a moderate Star Track fan, and a model train freak, I will gladly pass on this bottom-of-the-barrel kitsch. Underneath my Christmas tree every year, I portray, in HO scale, the steam-to-diesel transition era, with mid-century moderne houses and commercial buildings. I have a B&O Budd passenger train, powered by a B&O F3; and a Pennsylvania freight train powered by a Pennsylvania F7. I don't need Star Track kitsch underneath my tree. Considering your formidable qualifications, it would look as though this set was aimed exactly at you. So your bias against it seems a little confusing. Not to mention that, by definition, all things Star Trek can be regarded as fairly kitschy to begin with, no?

I like the starship Enterprise train better. That. Is. Awesome.

During a recent clear up in the loft, i found my Hornby triang trainset box. Wow, a lot still in original boxes. I had this one. And loads of extra wagons and carriages, platform, tunnels, the lots.

I love that your train set appears to service a nuclear power plant. I suspect the painting may be artist's impression of the famous chimneys in Tinsley, sheffield possibly? (Now demolished)

My very first train set was made from tin and had a key to wind up the engine. The track wasn't much bigger than a tray for eating your dinner whilst watching tv. I am just too old.. BUT!!! I did get an electric one bought before I was six. Enjoyed it very much. Almost as much as my Louis Marks bump and go Dalek. Now that was class. But not worth as much as a tin wind up one that I also once had. No idea what happened to that or the Louis Marks. I reckon my lovely mother simply gave them away thinking I was too old for them. I cried when I couldn't find 'em. Now I cry because I know they could have made me a bob or two. Then again they might just be gathering dust on the shelf...
