I heard saxophonist/composer Washington's 2016 3-CD debut, The Epic, and thought it was one of the most glorious new things I'd heard in jazz in some time, a blend of spiritual jazz and funk. I didn't know he composed for films! Has anybody heard Becoming?

Hoping for Newman and 1917!

But of course Hildur will take this one too...

Yes, AD ASTRA should win this. TROS is actually my LEAST favourite of the nominations.

TROS was not a strong work at all and one of my least favorite of Williams' music for Star Wars. But when looking at his body of work for all of the Star Wars films - what a legacy! He should get some kind of award for that achievement alone.

As for the other nominees... I'm only familiar with The Joker and thought it was quite good.

Oh yes! A sprightly, extremely pleasant score with pop sensibilities and very strong '70s vibes. It should be the front runner over the overhyped Guðnadóttir, the Max Richter score (whose appeal to many I can understand but whose greatest moment to my ears is a famous Bach melody from "The St. Matthew Passion"...), the criminally bland "1917" and the rehash in SW:TROS (sadly true, as much as I love JW). I'd be glad if Kamasi won and it would be a refreshing change but it ain't gonna happen...
