How sad! I didn't know Darling scored films. I know him primarily for being in the great Paul Winter Consort group that recorded the iconic album Icarus in 1971.

In fact, it is Darling's cello that plays Ralph Towner's melody on the tune "Icarus." I am not exaggerating when I say that this tune is among 4 or 5 of my all-time favorites.

The album is a classic, produced by George Martin. Aside from Paul Winter and Darling, the other 4 members of the group were Ralph Towner, Glen Moore, Colin Walcott, and Paul McCandless; those 4 left the Winter Consort to form the innovative group Oregon.

I got to see the Winter Consort with Darling live twice in the early 70s.

I listened to his ECM albums Cycles and Journal October endlessly in the 1980s.

Probably what first got me into Colin Walcott and Jan Garbarek, Oregon, etc.

And I could hear Icarus as I was reading vg's post.

RIP
