Just stupid not to bring Davis back. Like not hiring Williams for a Star Wars episode. Davis’ score was like a character in the films.

Aside from the obvious missed opportunity to have Davis back, the choice for composer(s) is just awful for the film.

I am inclined to agree but I should reserve judgment for when it's released.

Based on their track record, they won't be applying the modernist orchestral fury that was endemic to Davis' trilogy however. Pity. Maybe this will be Matrix: The Senior Days. So they would need more serene, soft electronic timbres...

Guys, let's not jump to conclusions. How about that they compose some additional music like they did for "The Matrix Revolutions"? Tom Tykwer, Johnny Klimek and Reinhold Heil created track "In My Head" under the Pale 3 alias, so it's more than likely, that they can do it again in Matrix 4.

Come on, do you think that in age of nostalgia and things like that, Warner and others will refuse to invite the man who can write music for the Matrix better than anyone else? Heck, they even tried to bring Hugo Weaving back, so I think they can't refuse, so lets wait for the official anouncments.

Well, yes actually. I mean, they also didn't bring back David Arnold for the ID4 sequel. So when it comes to music I don't think studio's particularly care about nostalgia. Don Davis won't be back for the sequel.

Good point, but I think your example is different case, sience there was only one movie and Emmerich worked with Klozer and Wander on many projects before it.

At the same time, John Williams returned for new Star Wars episodes, Howard Shore returned for Hobbit trilogy, Angelo Badalamenti returnd to 3rd season of Twin Peaks, Mark Snow returned to new X-Files seasons. So I think it's not so obvious and we need to wait.

You have a good point. It wasn’t until recently I discovered that Klimek and Tykwer were actually the musicians behind Pale 3 on Revolutions’ soundtrack. Makes sense they had some connection to the Wachowskis as they later came to work with them on Cloud Atlas. I too find it hard to believe Davis won’t ultimately compose the score for this fourth one. Anything is possible—as one of his Matrix cues goes—but alongside the bullet-time effects and maybe that red pill/blue pill scene, Davis’ music has been the most iconic element of the films. It’s hard to imagine a Matrix without those famous oscillating horns.

It's a matter of time than Thor and his exquisite taste will say he is delighted than Klimek and Tykwer has been chosen lol

Ah well. Not exciting news in any case. They did some nice stuff on perfume and cloud atlas but not anything great. I think they did the music for Sense8 on Netflix and it was generic. Davis was born to do the Matrix just as Poledouris was born to do Conan.

NO CD = NO SALE.

Wait, are we still doing that? Have they announced a CD or a lack of a CD yet? Crap... Well, just hang on to what I said for when they do, okay?

Its best to just imagine Matrix 4 does not exist, really.

This doesn't bode well for the quality of the film itself if they can't even get Davis onboard (or didn't try).

Davis likely bowed out when offered. He's only got two scores done in the last 14 years, so I think he's done with Hollywood and for all intents and purposes - the sequel movies weren't happy for a lot of the crew.

If they cannot get Davis, I hope they get someone who can approach the same level of modernism, late romanticism and techno. Not an easy task to be sure. In fact, I'm honestly straining to think of anyone who could manage this...

Maybe Wallfisch. He has the chops.

Powell would be interesting too but I think he's far too out of reach for a project like this. He's very picky about what he scores nowadays.

EDIT- actually I'd love to hear Chris Gordon have a hand at this. I always felt Gordon was massively underrated and underutilized. I would have loved a Gordon Mad Max score too.

Was Davis even offered? If I recall correctly, an FSMer on a thread about Giacchino mentioned that Davis' score for Speed Racer was rejected by the Wachowskis and that seemed to have ended their partnership. Anyway, the first Matrix and V for Vendetta were the only two good films that the Wachowskis made. As for Tykwer and co, I like their music a lot so I will be interested to see what they bring to the table for this.
