That's not a children's orchestra. And technically, that's NOT film music either.

Isn't that the Portsmouth Sinfonia performance from many years ago -- which, if memory serves, was an experiment that gave amateurs, or people who did not play an instrument, a chance to do so? It's a legendary 'performance art' piece.

Not film music, but have you heard Hindemith's string quartet "adaptation" of Wagner's The Flying Dutchman overture ?

"Flying Dutchman Overture as Played by Bad Spa Orchestra at 7 AM by the Well (1925)".

Here it is :

Personally? I loved watching Christopher Young dancing in the aisles at the GSPO halloween show when a rock ensemble performed his music from Ghost Rider.

In all seriousness……considering the Historical Significance of the evening and the Star Cast of Legendary Hollywood Composer/Conductors, this must surely be the greatest Film Music Concert of all time…..on September 25, 1963.

I would have been 23 at the time, and there can’t be many of us around now who can even recall that evening happening, although parts were recorded and appeared on a Columbia Stereo LP and a (much) later CD.

Our own Jon Burlingame lays it all out for you here…..
