HARD RAIN arrived today and sounds fantastic!! Such a treat to go back to the 90s, a time of ridiculously overblown hero themes, wailing brass and furiously aggressive strings big grin

I went down the rabbit hole and decided to revisit Ghost Rider, Priest and Spider-Man 3 as well, and Young is sorely missing in the action arena these days! He should’ve scored Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange sequel

What’s up with LLL? Stuff is barely restocked for a week and then disappears - Lethal Weapon, Titanic, Mission Impossible - but links are still on the site or broken. Apart from Lethal Weapon, the others aren’t listed as going out of print or low in stock on either the site or this forum. Then they just disappear without being listed out of print.

Similar thing happened with Intrada for Monsignor - out of stock for forever then back in stock for about an hour, then out of stock. But then it was back in stock the next day and still is.

Is there any way to get an accurate count or status of titles?

Scalpers!

Waxwork cancelled a bunch of scalper orders for their recent Turtles 2 release.

There’s a method to figure out stock count of an item. Let’s say you’re waiting to buy for some reason and for safety you want to see if there’s at least 100 in stock. Add the title to your cart, and when doing so select a quantity of 100. If you can add them to your cart, there’s at least 100 left. If you can’t, there isn’t. This method was recently used by posters to keep track of the dwindling stock count of the Potter set.

As far as the titles you listed, Mission Impossible hasn’t been in stock for a while and wasn’t given an expected restock date in a recent post by LLL. And Titanic came back in stock in November and considering it’s a limited edition of only 5000 for the best selling film score of all time and was commanding over $100 on eBay when it was out of stock, I’m surprised it lasted as long as it did. I would’ve expected that one to sell out again quickly similar to the HP set.

I know it's kind of a silly movie, but I always had great affection for Hard Rain: a fun story, good actors hamming it up with gusto, tremendous special effects, tons of suspence and excitement..they really don't make them like this anymore.
And of course the score is vintage Young, from a time when he didn't miss a beat.

Thanks, that's helpful.

The whole site is weird as the main page still lists Titanic as back in stock, yet when you click the link it goes nowhere. LLL usually lists OOP albums in the "Out Of Print" section so I'm never quite sure what's up now.

I sure hope the Disaster Movie Collection isn't somehow mysteriously out of print either.

I took notice of this and another thread just now and it seems like you have some conspiratorial beef with us and other labels.

Here are some answers for you

1. Sometimes our webmaster is not always on top of things and it takes a little time for him to make updates to the site (we are all busy and updates are not always instant). He is aware of titles being out of print or out of stock and will be making adjustments to the website shortly

2. When we know something is coming to an end or running out of stock we put a cap on our web store so it automatically turns off so customers are not able to order them any more. In the case of Harry Potter we were stunned how quickly the new stock sold and acted as promptly as we could to ensure that our customers and most of our wholesale dealers get their copies. We are aiming to have more in stock in June/July.

3. Lethal Weapon - we got this back in stock last November, informed everyone along the way how many units still remained and sold out of the title last week. It's not like this title, or this final pressing -- of the 3000 run -- sold out in 24 hours

4. Titanic - we had this back in stock for many months. Its now out of stock because we sold a bunch via our website and through our wholesale dealers recently. Why...I have no idea. This title is not sold out and will be back in stock later this year.

5. As for the JW Disaster set we will have another batch coming in some time in March or April (a little ahead of schedule). Its not the final batch but it will be limited to around 500 units. Buy it then or wait until more come in.

I wish we had an unlimited supply of money so we could do new projects, pay royalties, pay bills, pay taxes, pay salaries, pay for repressings without every worrying about how much we have in our bank account at the end of each month but alas we do not have that kind of luxury.

You act as if there is some grand conspiracy when in fact we are the most transparent label on the planet. Would you like to see our tax returns and royalty reports? Our postal receipts and contracts?

Honest question, does your site have measures in place to prevent scalpers? Or do you look through orders to see if they are suspicious? It seems to be a big problem right now during the pandemic with lots of scalpers using programs to buy up things they see are in demand that they can make money off reselling. Waxwork mentioned about their recent release and scalpers and I know the PC parts/building industry is struggling big time with it right now. Many eCommerce sites are now using extra measures to ensure honest customers are getting the products, like limits on quantities and background coding/captchas to filter things.

In 18 years we have never had to worry about scalpers...and if customer buys 20 copies (and to my recollection no one has ever purchased that many at once) and they pay full retail price then so be it. I am not going to fault a wholesaler or an individual customer for buying multiple copies of a title. It's in their right. It's not like the old days when titles sold out in 24 hours (or like they do with Mondo products). When was the last time any soundtrack from us or Intrada or Music Box or Varese, etc sold out to "scalpers"? Is that really a concern for cds in 2021?

Thanks for this response, it's extremely helpful (and sad because I just overpaid for a used "Titanic" as it seemed like it was Out Of Print rather than Out Of Stock).

I genuinely am just trying to figure out what the status is for some of these titles since there is lately a greater discrepancy between what is listed online and what is actually available in inventory. And I understand given not just the challenges of managing inventory online, but also the pandemic making it worse, so I feel for you there.

If anything was conspiratorial it was more about reading people's suggestions that scalpers may be buying in bulk which was really frustrating if that was the case :/

I'm just trying to get the soundtracks that I love, when I have the money (which is not always immediately), and to give that money directly to labels I support, like yours, for a fair list price, rather than a third-party scalper or reseller or amazon. Something similar happened with Intrada and "Monsignor" and I ended up buying through amazon because Intrada accidentally marked it as out of print for something like a 12-hour period - and that felt like it was Intrada's loss, not just because I didn't buy directly from them but because it was bought used, so Intrada was in practice only paid once for a single product unit that two people benefited from (the seller likely ripped the CD and still has the music).

I mean I guess in the end it probably doesn't matter to the labels because you're getting paid by SOMEBODY and you'll likely move these units anyway - but it's just not my preference to not give money directly to labels.

Anyway, I'm very happy to hear about the JW Disaster Collection coming back, and I'm wondering - since you have a Print Order Form - can that be filled out for out of stock titles like the JW Disaster Collection to be paid for and reserved in advance?

Thanks again for taking the time to respond in detail.

While scalpers and resellers are definitely an issue with most collectibles right now, I highly doubt they'll ever be something to worry about when it comes to limited edition film score CDs. There may be a few mainstream titles here and there that some flipper might think is a sure thing, like the Jurassic Park or Harry Potter collections, but for the most part they want something they can unload quick for an easy profit. This is way too niche a market for that. They're chasing things like sneakers, funko pops, or PS5s, which will sell out fast and create immediate demand. Not CDs that take years to go out of print.

and the very last 200 units of VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA – TV SERIES (4-CD SET) are now back in stock at www.lalalandrecords.com

Seeing that the set seems to have sold well, is there a possibility for a volume 2? Because that would be a FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC prospect.

Not necessarily. They may have pressed it in small batches, didn't sell well, are doing one more small batch and are letting the license go. Doesn't mean I am right, but it's also a possibility. A possibility I'd love to be wrong about.

I'm counting on it.

Scalpers? Who uses that word now? I think you'd prefer to say "speculators" which have been around forever and what you're saying is nothing new. While people have bought multiple copies of things, not everyone has paid through the roof for them when it comes to collectables unless it's a heated auction which has happend many times over on eBay. I remember when Cherry 2000 went for like 2500.00 which practically stunned everyone back in the late 90's is best instance of this. Yet, the collectables market depending on the item is somewhat fair in a certain degree. If something is hot and going for so much, I've found it to be better to wait and then try and get one at a fairly lower price without breaking the bank on it. While the market is hot on Funko Pops and Air Jordan's (which will always be valuable), that doesn't mean that the prices will stay that way forever. They do drop like soundtracks have in the last 20 years and if there is a demand, then the price rightfully goes up. If doesn't that's the time not to debate on getting it, just get it before it does go back up and not kick yourself for missing out on it. I've missed out on things and thankfully over the years, I have learned to be patient and I've acquired many soundtracks, collectables and other unique things for low to fair prices. This all depends on how badly you want it. If you have the money and are willing to shell it out for one particular soundtrack, then that's one right to do so. However, if someone is not willing to pay that then they have to wait because unfortunately as I have also learned, you have to pay the piper for something that good worth having. The other approach is a reissue/expansion and yet I've noticed that even when those come out, collectors still have not gotten them which makes no sense at all.

Which is why I completely disagree with your statement about limited edition CD's. While many have not sold out to the extent of say 20 years ago let's say, many titles have gone out of print quickly because the demand of a title is simply not there despite people asking for a release of it. Best examples are when Intrada puts titles on their "Danger Zone" page and sadly, there are have been many excellent titles reissued such as The Rocketeer and the seriously underrated Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure score and excellent expanded releases such as Son of the Morning Star, Lost In Space, The Lonely Guy and long in demand titles such as Reincarnation of Peter Proud (which finally sold out BTW), have sadly ended up on this list and at a more reasonable price than your "scalpers" eventually sell copies of on eBay, Amazon and on the trading post of this site. Then people like yourself complain about it after you've missed the opportunity to get it when it was available for the price the labels have it for like Intrada, Varese, Screen Archives, MovieMusic, Quartet, Music-Box, and La-La Land.

La-La Land has also been great about alerting in stock, out of stock and titles that are going out of print for more than a decade now which I have taken advantage of to get something I've been wanting and it was the right time to get it. Varese Sarabande has also done the same as well in recent years. They've even had sales to help sell these titles like LLL did last year during the pandemic to great success and some titles did finally sell out and go out of print. That doesn't mean that these titles could cease production and they could at any point like Intrada had with their expanded release of The Great Train Robbery in the early 2010's and also, pretty much completely ceased on the excellent David Newman score, "Malone" back in 2007 due to poor sales and it was a darn shame because it is one of his best as another example.

While there sell outs for many years (Varese's Jagged Edge: Varese Encore Edition, RoboCop 2: Deluxe Edtion and Raggedy Man and Kritzerland's Two For The Road and A Boy Named Charlie Brown come to mind), thankfully this has stopped for the most part. However, that doesn't mean that they won't disappear soon. This all depends on sales and how many copies the label has pressed or would press based on demand. If the demand is there like The Disaster Collection, then a full run possible as an example. If it's something like the Stephen King Collection that Varese is now trying to sell the rest of, they take into account the number of copies pressed up to that point, sales figures and then make the decision of going forward or to not go forward. In the case of that title, it has not gone forward and it did not help that two of the titles in that box, Dreamcatcher and The Stand were reissued as standalone titles as part of the club while the box was still available. The only reason to get that set now is for Nicholas Pike's excellent, The Shining (which could also receive a standalone release in the future if that's possible) and the reissue of Tangerine Dream's Firestarter, mainly because the original Varese pressing of that is going for high prices and this is fair alternative for the price along with getting three other solid scores along with it.

Another thing I did notice over the years which also ties into this is that the labels as well as the soundtrack outlets do put a cap on certain titles at a certain point that are deemed to sell out to limit speculators from buying more than one copy to resell anywhere they choose to or even trade. Now in the grey matter area, I could buy two copies of a certain title because you're keeping one for yourself and the other is say a birthday, Christmas or a personal gift to a friend or a family member who's a collector. Then, you can't say it's speculating. That's simply just doing something for someone close to you out of kindness and I'm sure many have done that here. Now say that person doesn't like the CD and it's now sold out or something, they can either trade it or sell it. The choice is theirs much like it is my or your choice to spend what someone is asking for a particular CD. Hey, there's always trading. That doesn't hurt now does it?

So there are many ways of at looking at this but you can't compare the price of Funko Pop to a CD soundtrack. lol While there are super valuable ones like the Game of Thrones one with the chopped head that goes for thousands, it's just one of the rare few of those things that I can say definitely worth the price, but for many other Funko Pops those I can't say that for. It's like trying to compare this to baseball cards which logically in a money battle between a Tom Brady Rookie card that went for over 3 million dollars just recently would prevail over say the Danny Elfman/Tim Burton Zoetrope box that goes for as much as a thousand with the music box in good shape since most came damaged after delivery and including the numbered certificate.

The best way to avoid not having to pay astronomical prices that alot of people on the trading post (that I noticed) complain about, then just get it somehow when it's available and avoid the issue altogether. Makes it easier to sleep at night don't you think rather than overpaying for something you really wanted later on.

A pity the song "Flood" by Jars Of Clay is not on the expanded soundtrack.

It's on the original soundtrack though. 90s memory.
