SEASON 1:

Based on the film by the same name.

If I don't mention an episode, that means no composer was credited. Yes, I doubled checked against IMDb.

Original Pilot
By: Dave Grusin
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fc6ea0Gtsvk (extended version, from a 16mm print)
AIRED CUT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8YDacElh-0

I'm using the longer pilot, which presumably didn't air, because it has some more score in it and different score.

Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.
  • 1:51 in.
  • 3:30 in.
  • 5:44 in.
  • 10:14 in.
  • 13:01 in.
  • 15:53 in.
  • 21:08 in.
  • 22:56 in. The aired cut crossfades the next cue into it, because some scenes were cut before she made the phone call.
  • 25:43 in.
  • 26:56 in.

    AIRED CUT:
  • 11:41 in. I bring this up because the cue in the aired cut, is not the same as the one in the original pilot.
  • 19:02 in. Also different than in the original pilot.
  • 22:03 in. Almost completely different than the one from the original pilot (25:43).

And the cue when the Captain tells her she can stay on a trial basis, is slightly different than the aired pilot cut version.

Captain: "How sad you were not born in my time, or I in yours."

    "Haunted Honeymoon"
    By: Dave Grusin
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itZbDmW2ChQ

    Highlights:
  • 9:58 in.
  • 12:48 in.
  • 14:06 in.
  • 21:26 in.

    "Treasure Hunt"
    By: Dave Grusin
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUgypPJwAGY

    Highlights:
  • 1:45 in.
  • 4:00 in.
  • 6:53 in.
  • 11:37/12:30 in. And the cue after the commercial break.
  • 16:07 in.
  • 18:34 in.

    "The Ghost Hunter"
    By: Dave Grusin
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6b2fTGceUVM

    Highlights:
  • 2:29 in.
  • 5:02 in.
  • 7:41 in.

    "Hero Today, Gone Tomorrow"
    By: Dave Grusin
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-trbDG9sDg

    Highlights:
  • 3:52 in.
  • 14:45 in. And the cue after the commercial break.
  • 15:26 in.
  • 19:34 in.
  • 22:34 in.

First Grusin score for the show not to say he conducted it. No conductor is credited.

This series has one of my favorite TV themes. Such a great and catchy piece of music.

    Continuing SEASON 1:

    "Vanessa"
    By: Warren Baker
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJfyPGlxrUE

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.
  • 1:55 in.
  • 3:32 in.
  • 6:13 in.
  • 6:56 in.
  • 7:10 in.
  • 10:10 in.
  • 12:04 in.
  • 16:35 in.
  • 18:33 in. After a lull of a couple of seconds, the cue continues.
  • 22:22 in. And the cue after the commercial break.

That's everything except four short cues, including one comedic stinger. Just a wonderful effort by Baker.

"These are some letters written by Captain Gregg; they were written more than a century ago, but I just got them."
Martha: "Well, the mail has been slow."

Martha: "Why doesn't she come down from there? You suppose she's heard about my cooking?"

    "The Real James Gatley"
    By: Dave Grusin
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pgpk9RQHK78

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.
  • 2:39 in.
  • 5:00 in.
  • 5:42 in.
  • 7:50 in.
  • 9:05 in. More of the same kind of material after the commercial break.
  • 14:11 in.
  • 16:18 in.
  • 17:08 in.
  • 22:08 in. And the cue after the commercial break.

And now he's the conductor again.

    (Note to Me: 1:38)

    "Uncle Arnold the Magnificent"
    By: Fred Steiner
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5_IAC-i3DI

This is the only effort by Steiner for the series.

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.
  • 0:45 in.
  • 1:16 in.
  • 2:22 in.
  • 9:16 in.
  • 12:14 in.
  • 13:56 in.
  • 15:01 in.
  • 16:37 in.
  • 18:27 in.
  • 20:39 in.
  • 23:57 in.

In from the Department of Coincidences, about two years prior Steiner scored a failed pilot for a series called "Thompson's Ghost", which has a very similar plot to this series. Perhaps this is what got him considered here. No load of the pilot has ever popped up since I found out about it years ago. The pilot was aired on an anthology series made to burn off failed pilots, called "Summer Fun".

Around that time productions companies seemed to have a thing for ghosts living with families and three pilots (that I know of) were made. This show, the aforementioned one, and "Who Goes There?" (scored by John Williams).

Captain: "My dear lady, all I see is his hurt is contagious."

    "The Monkey Puzzle Tree"
    By: Warren Baker
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRHcq7OkX4o

    Highlights:
  • 0:59 in.
  • 1:50 in.
  • 3:00 in.
  • 3:49 in.
  • 5:54 in.
  • 8:32 in.
  • 10:40 in.
  • 12:49 in.
  • 14:39 in.
  • 17:10 in.
  • 18:37 in.
  • 20:29 in.
  • 22:45 in. And the cue after the commercial break.

    "Madeira, My Dear?"
    By: Warren Baker
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsmmMgWc2k4

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.
  • 1:50 in.
  • 4:51 in.
  • 7:56 in.
  • 10:17 in.
  • 11:13 in.
  • 13:36 in.
  • 15:41 in.
  • 16:32/18:22 in.
  • 21:40 in. And the cue after the commercial break.
  • 22:58/23:37/24:10 in.

    Finishing SEASON 1:

    "Love is a Toothache"
    By: Warren Baker
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXJPpjFDXFw

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.
  • 2:49 in.
  • 3:44 in.
  • 4:39 in.
  • 6:50 in.
  • 11:06 in.
  • 12:12 in. Two short cues.
  • 20:34 in.
  • 21:31 in.
  • 23:17 in.

    (NTM: 24:08)

    "Mr. Perfect"
    By: Dave Grusin
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5ddFEQ9cDM

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.
  • 1:45 in.
  • 3:21 in.
  • 9:06 in.*
  • 12:08 in.
  • 13:41 in.
  • 15:35 in.
  • 16:33 in.
  • 19:09 in.
  • 22:07 in.
  • 23:12 in.

    * = During the canned laughter you can hear a distinct laugh that is obviously coming from behind the camera. I don't know if it's the cameraman or a producer or somebody else.

Captain: "'Yours to eternity'? What does he know about eternity."

NOTE: I don't think I've ever interrupted a listing to make a note, but the next two episodes that have no composer credited, both open with the same exact cue which I don't recall hearing in any prior scored episode, and it's clearly original material created for the show. I suspect there's probably some score created for general library use that's tracked into episodes with no composer credited.

    "Son of the Curse"
    By: Warren Baker
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpLKkQJ8bl4

    Highlights:
  • 1:54 in.
  • 4:07 in.
  • 7:07 in.
  • 8:08 in.
  • 10:55 in.
  • 11:51 in.
  • 12:31/15:17 in.
  • 13:08 in.
  • 21:38 in.
  • 22:54 in.

    Claymore: "I don't suppose you'd rent a casket?"

    Out-of-context quote...
"Uuummhumhumhum, it's starring already ... coming!"

None of these composers will return for the second season.

    SEASON 2:

Greeley scored every episode unless otherwise noted, so no need to mention him every single time.

    "The Great Power Failure"
    By: George Greeley
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZuRMIyxJ-U

    Highlights:
  • 3:18 in.

  • 20:39 in.*
  • 22:47 in.
  • 24:41 in.

    * = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlsSyQH0gu8

Captain: "We'll see about that, you malingering bilge blister."

"There's a Seal in My Bathtub"
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2isC5PXFpd8

    Highlights:
  • 0:00/1:01 in.
  • 3:06/5:11 in.
  • 8:50 in.
  • 10:37 in.
  • 12:17 in.
  • 13:30 in.
  • 15:36 in. And the next cue a few brief seconds after this one ends.
  • 18:06/20:03 in.
  • 22:19 in. And the cue after the commercial break.

    "Double Trouble"
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBJyhfyBx-w

    Highlights:
  • 0:44 in. For the guys here...
  • 2:00 in.
  • 3:37 in.
  • 7:40 in.
  • 9:20 in.
  • 10:28 in.
  • 11:42 in.
  • 14:22 in. The source music. And the score cue that immediately follows it.
  • 17:56 in.
  • 20:13 in.
  • 24:26 in.

    "Today I Am a Ghost"
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8bgznqO9Fg

    Highlights:
  • 0:46 in.
  • 2:15 in.
  • 6:16/9:00 in.
  • 12:25 in.
  • 13:30 in.
  • 14:44 in.
  • 15:28 in.
  • 17:11 in.
  • 19:03 in.
  • 19:37 in.
  • 20:41 in.
  • 21:46 in.
  • 23:39 in.
  • 24:34 in.

A delightful whimsical score using the familiar old piece associated with pirates and the sea. There's probably some way to logically and wantingly combine most of the cues into a suite or two.

Captain: "Indulgence is the stepping stone to weakness."

I'm not sure how much of this I would include on a set of season two scoring.

    "Wedding Day?????"
    By: George Greeley (uncredited)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X19XP-qa8es

On IMDb (I know, it could be wrong) he is listed for the score but uncredited. I doubled checked and sure enough, no composer credited. In the off chance he did score it and received no credit, I am covering it.

    Highlights:
  • 2:44 in.
  • 11:00 in.
  • 12:22 in.
  • 14:43 in. This is the only episode with a wedding in it, and since this cue is obviously done by Greeley and features a brief passage from the classic wedding music, it has to be original. 99% SFX free.
