Looking into TIME TUNNEL vol. 2, I think Williams is only credited because of the main title, but otherwise all of his episode material was already released on vol. 1, if I'm not mistaken.

La-La Land Records, Synthesis Entertainment, 20th Century Studios and Legendary Pictures proudly present THE TIME TUNNEL: ORIGINAL TELEVISION SOUNDTRACK COLLECTION – VOL. 2: LIMITED EDITION, a deluxe 3-CD collection of original music from the classic Irwin Allen 1966-1967 sci-fi/time-travel adventure television series!

This classic TV series chronicled the time-traveling adventures of two scientists flung into varied pasts and futures via a top-secret, underground government base called Project Tic-Toc. THE TIME TUNNEL was producer Irwin Allen’s favorite series among the ones he produced, and unlike LOST IN SPACE, VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA or LAND OF THE GIANTS, it would require the show’s scores to reflect not only the series’ overall sci-fi drama and adventure, but also the varied pasts and presents each episode would visit. Thankfully, a group of talented composers was more than up to this challenge!

This second volume collection of original music from THE TIME TUNNEL features stellar work from acclaimed composers Johnny Williams, Leith Stevens, Joseph Mullendore, Paul Sawtell, Robert Drasnin and George Duning, who propel this beloved show’s episodes with captivating orchestral ‘60s era television scoring. Showcased across this deluxe 3-Disc presentation are scores from the episodes “Revenge of the Gods,” “Massacre,” “Reign of Terror,” “Secret Weapon,” “The Death Trap,” and “The Death Merchant” along with additional music cues. Limited to 1000 units, this release is produced by Jeff Bond and Neil S. Bulk, executive produced for 20th Century Studios by Mike Matessino, and digitally edited and mastered from original mono recordings by James Nelson. The exclusive liner notes are by Jeff Bond and the art design is by Mark Banning.

This release is dedicated to the late and greatly missed Kevin Burns. His undying passion for all things Irwin Allen made our Irwin Allen soundtrack releases possible, including this one, which he was thrilled to make available to the fans.

My god, Leith Stevens march from Revenge of the Gods is frickin awesome. Right up there with Rozsa's best. Thanks for the tease in the samples. Can't wait to hear the full score!

As much as people tend to glom into the William name, he didn't set the tone for this series. It was the work of Leith Stevens, Robert Drasnin and Lyn Murry would really gave the show it's musical identity.

"Revenge of the Gods" by Stevens is epic scoring, truly feature picture worthy. It's honestly better than the material deserved.

"The Death Trap" by Drasnin and "The Death Merchant" by George Duning are masterworks. Most of the series' signature fight and action tunes are on this album and they sound AMAZING!

Only Paul Sawtell's work still fails to impress. It's okay just not up to the same level of scope and excitement.

A phenomenal presentation and it's incredible it all survived. Thank you LLL and the folks who put this all together so beautifully!

Got mine yesterday-Thanks LaLa Land for producing so many incredible releases and for consistent great service.
But the CD title, tracks, etc. do not yet show up on the Apple Tunes app.
Any idea when that information will be uploaded to the database?

And unfortunately his best music (for earlier films) remains unreleased. frown

It does feel like Paul Sawtell did not usually deliver the same quality of work for episodic television scoring in the 60s, compared to his work for theatrical features...

I'm thrilled with now having all 12 scores for THE TIME TUNNEL over these two releases. Regarding the most recently released Paul Sawtell score for "Secret Weapon", I have a bit of a different take. As "Secret Weapon" is one of my favorite episodes, I'm naturally very familiar with the backing score, having watched it many times over the past decades. And sometimes familiarity can make one fonder of a piece of music. (There's a reason hit records are played over and over, and why we remember them from so long ago.)

I've always found Paul Sawtell's score for "Secret Weapon" to be quite appropriate and effective. Even just the opening scenes of our heroes wandering around the streets of an Iron Curtain city are wonderfully scored with mysterious passages punctuated by the rhythmic march-by of Communist soldiers. I have nothing but fondness for this score and am thankful that it survives and that I now own it on CD.

My congratulations to the compilers and producers of this fine work as it takes its place proudly next to its Volume 1 sister release.

I agree, even if Sawtell's work for this series doesn't ring my chime on album, he absolutely helped make that episode work like gangbusters. It's one of my favorite episodes as well. There are a couple of cues that also became standards for the series. This release is chock full of them.

The Time Tunnel had a vert high quality of music that was sustained over the run of the short series. Unlike, say, Lost in Space, which would up with some really unlistenable scores (I'm looking at you Alexander Courage), every one of these is 'good" at worst and exceptional at best.

I do have to wonder, though, what John Williams was thinking on the pilot version of the theme by ending it on that low blat. Even the music editor fades the cue quickly on the unaired pilot film.

I'm guessing it was initially supposed to be a "music under" for the announcer to come in and say "The Time Tunnel is brought to you by..." and was later thought through and dropped.

The disc and track titles are encoded on the discs in the form of "CD-Text". Unfortunately, most computer music programs cannot use that feature, but it will display on many later generation CD players in both homes and cars.
