To this day, I still find it absolutely galling that MGM refused Robert Harris’ offer to restore the film. We might have had the uncut version in somewhat better quality if not for the imbeciles in charge there.

We might have had the uncut version in somewhat better quality if not for the imbeciles in charge there. Yeah, I never understood that, & I understand that it wouldn't have cost them anything. Oh well, we are where we are & as long as it looks okay I'll be buying it. But a proper restoration from Robert Harris! Oh, what a lost opportunity, enough to make a grown man cry. I've been listening to (& can thoroughly recommend) the fantastic three-CD re-recording of The Alamo soundtrack on Prometheus Records. I think it's Dimitri Tiomkin's masterwork, & who would have thought that The City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra & North London's, Crouch End Festival Chorus could sound so American. ...& I'm sure it'll get an American release, or maybe not...

In Yorkshire it’s known as Bramhall Lane. I had to look that one up!

I must admit, I did find it quite funny when that Digital Bits article revealed one of the main reasons the film is in such bad shape is because John Wayne raised an idiot.

The Alamo may be the original proof that walls are ineffective against Mexicans.
