Never liked vinyls but I have no problem with vinyl releases as long as they are not ar the expense of CD releases. What annoys me is when a new release is vinyl and download only without a CD release.

(But I have to admit this resurgence of vinyl is beyond me... The most problematic and vulnerable format ever.)

That's the way the world is moving. CDs are dead. Either stream or get the vinyl.

But vinyls were also dead once, weren't they? So I keep hoping of a future CD resurgence.

Possibly, except that download cards render CDs superfluous.

Indeed. Tell 'em like it is.

It's all about attempting to recapture the experience of having something cool in your hands while you listen.

I suspect many current vinyl aficionados listen to a digital version while they pore over the physical materials. I do. That Planet of the Apes vinyl package from Mondo is great with the sound chip that plays the "Maaama" sound from the human baby doll in the archeological cave site when you unfold the jacket.

Not just for hipsters; a total fanboy bliss-out attempt.

To hold something in my hands is also important to me, but I would choose the CD, never the vinyl. This craze about vinyls seems to me like if we wanted to go back to horse carriages instead of using cars.

I don't think this is the analogy you wanted to use. Horse drawn carriages are SO much more appealing than cars.

They smell about the same.

Keep this in mind:

After a nuclear apocalypse sends humanity back into the Stone Age, your CDs will be useless.

As for the vinyl, you will be able to rig up a turntable, using a bicycle chain mechanism and the tip of a bayonet palm for a stylus.

When some future civilization digs up the relics of the 20th and 21st centuries, the records will still play. The CDs, not likely.

Great, all I need now is my very own Gilligan.

Ha, well vinyl lovers enjoy. The very last thing I want to buy these days is an LP.

I agree. Not at these prices.

I was buying vinyl for 50 cents or a buck a throw in the 1990s. Those were the days...

Sweet baby Xenu, they're Hallmark cards now? big grin

I ain't mad at it. In terms of physicality, I'm reminded that LP covers are the same size as typical wall calendars, so there's that. I do get the occasional Captain America, TRON, and Star Wars LP, although my potential preferred format is digital downloads whose rights don't expire like pandemic bread.

  • I love these threads.

They're the kind to scream "JERRY! JERRY! JERRY!", but it's confusing to know whether that's referring to Goldsmith, Fielding, or Springer.

Have we confirmed that The Matrix will follow with a CD version as well?

I know bands/label owners that don't do CDs anymore - more of them every day.

That's because they're selling the digital files of CDs as downloads instead. And a lot more of them than they'll ever sell on LP.

What is a "vinyls"? That is not even a word. You want CD's to survive and so do I. The only way is if people stop downloading/streaming or whatever it is you do.
