They've listed three John Williams concert events for the abbreviated Tanglewood summer concert season with special pandemic precautions.

CONCERT LENGTH
Maximum 80 minutes. No intermission. Only in open-air Koussevitsky shed. Nothing indoors.

REDUCED SEATING
Open seats between parties. So only half as many tickets available. Wear masks, etc., etc.

It's been a long dry spell, concert-wise, for us concertgoers. I was getting desperate enough to consider
going to a Two Steps from Hell event in Europe. I had tickets for Williams at the Pittsburgh Symphony
Orchestra for June, but that was canceled. Have had my two Moderna shots and am raring to go.

What's the story with The Hollywood Bowl? We'll find out in May.

Violin Concerto #2 sounds exciting. Can’t wait for a recording.

I just saw these listings the other day. I'm hoping to get tickets for the August 13th performance. It would be the closest thing to bringing my love of film scores full circle because what really kicked it into high gear was, in 9th grade, borrowing a friend's copy of "By Request... - The Best of John Williams and the Boston Pops".

Plus, Tanglewood is only 3.5 hours away from me, and many of my road trips have involved the NY Thruway and Mass Pike, so I'm pretty familiar with the drive smile

Just out of curiosity, will John Williams ever retire? He is nearly 90yo.

No. He's said in interviews he has no intention of ever retiring. So he'll continue composing untill the day he dies, or the body doesn't allow it anymore.

And thank God for this! Because the day that imminently occurs it will be the definitive and painful end of film music as we know it.

If I still lived on the East Coast I would buy a ticket for every performance. Hoping to see JW at the Hollywood Bowl this summer, but who knows?

You Americans are lucky bastards.

You're only like, 20% further away than someone in LA is.

I am so unbelievably thrilled that I got tickets for the July 24 premiere of Williams' Violin Concerto #2. It will be my first visit to Tanglewood and my first chance to see the Boston Symphony live, so after an almost two-year dry spell of not being able to travel at all, my wife and I are starting up again in style. This will surely be the highlight of my year.

Yes, for many years Anne-Sophie Mutter and Andre Previn had pleaded with Williams to write a concerto for her. He finally relented.
