The Heritage Records label has recently acquired the rights to distribute the Unicorn-Kanchana catalog I believe.

Thank you for the heads up! I didn't realize these were back in print.

Psycho:

Also Herrmann's Clarinet Quintet and String Quartet:

A word of caution about Moby Dick: the sound is atrocious. Can't really be fixed. Chandos did a splendid modern recording with incredible soloists in SACD multichannel:

BornOfAJackal: If The Fantasy Film World of Bernard Herrmann is your album, you seriously need to spring for the hi-res transfer.

jkruppa: Downloaded last night and listened this morning on my drive to work. Even in the car the clarity and detail are incredible. Going to listen again shortly on my good speakers at home, but this sounds like it was recorded yesterday. Looking forward to the Hitchcock album and Obsession.

I'm pleased to see this thread has turned into a hi-res Herrmann frenzy.

A reminder that all Herrman-ites should be aware of these:

Thanks for the reference Mr. PurpleMonkeyDishwasher. I'm looking for a copy for a friend.

The original Unicorn CD releases were horribly mastered. It would appear that this new label has done zero about it.

IS there anything they could do about it? Asking as a layman but I understood that the original masters were poorly recorded. Genuinely curious.

I love love love Herrmann, but I have to say so few of his recordings actually sound good. He worked in the film industry with good people. How it is possibly he didn’t link up with better people?

Horribly mastered, especially the Moby Dick Cantata... And I must add that almost all of my Unicorn records have suffered from "bronzing"... I'm not sure when I last looked at them, but I'll check to see if their condition has deteriorated further ...

It seems their vinyl is better than their CDs... not sure if I have much/any Unicorn releases on CD; the Unicorn LPs I got are all good pressings.
