…the plane crash scene was an amazing bit of film-making. Very harrowing.
Sure, the first minute of setup before the camera pans to the jet striking the electrical tower, careening across the highway and then exploding on impact is pure disaster porn par excellence, but then it's all downhill stoopid after that as the camera follows Nic into the CGI fire aftermath:
Varese’s website appears to be down and/or at least the PayPal payment method isn’t working at this time. Anyone else having problems with this?
Admit this film is a guilty pleasure for me, despite Cage being in this (ugh) and some of its other shortcomings. Surprised I haven’t heard the soundtrack previously - pretty good work. Will order once Varese alllows again.
I like the movie (yes, it's a guilty pleasure, so what?), but above all I think the score is one of Beltrami's best. Since i have been mostly satisfied with the first release in terms of listening experience, but improved sound quality could be a tipping factor in favor of this one..has it been remastered? I don't find anything on Varese's site about this.
I really like the movie and I also have the original Varese album. This new 2 CD edition was an instant buy for me along with Jerry's Lionheart. More Beltrami!
I remember enjoying this movie. I've got a disc; I should replay it. I can't for the life of me recall the score. What's the scoring facility? How's the sound of the new set?
I had a great time with the movie. Is it "Oscar material" ? Nope. But when there are people who think Zack Synder's DC movies ( including Justice League ) are good or think Fight Club is deep and insightful, don't talk shit about this one
And I've always felt the score is one of Beltrami's best. Finally ordered it after Varese delayed Lionheart . Has this one started shipping yet ?
If it’s the Deluxe Edition banner placement that bugs you, you should know that’s not how it looks on the package (it’s put on the rear inlay to peek through).
Yavar
Thanks for this bit, this is good to know (and a relief)
I hope my copy arrives from the UK soon, I hope any of the new material is as good as the great "Caleb leaves" track I love so much from the original 1CD release.
I am more curious what went wrong here with the sound quality?!
Some tracks eg CD2 tr 11 include fairly annoying hiss on and off during the entire track, which is also present in various other places through the set. Not to mention what exactly made anyone to squeeze in Beethoven source music in the middle of the score?
OK... varese probably isn't entirely to blame here for a change. It is also present in the original album and everything in between. Probably just some issue with the actual tapes. It is just a bit more evident in the Deluxe.
