  • they will go on a quest to get the sword back

    Again?

  • and Prince Adam will once again "have the power" and become He-Man again.

AGAIN? I've heard of Chekov's Gun, but Chekov's Submachine Rail Repeater?

Never was much of a fan, but I loved Levy/Saban's music, and McCreary's effort here is very rollicking in its own way (I swear, he, Joel Goldsmith, Lee Holdridge, and Brendon Small are the only score composers who "get" what makes metal work*). This first parter is enjoyable enough, equal to the 2010s reboot series, but once again, the Sorceress proves to be one of the worst characters in all of fiction - she has one job, but continually whines about not having enough power to guard a bastion designed to grant all the power. Speaking of which, after all this time, you'd think the center of universal conflict would have better defenses surrounding its star system by now after the ceaseless war committed there, or at the very least have perpetual battles occur in a constant basis to the point that shreds the planet's very bedrock to a mere pebble. But that's just me getting tired of the rinse-repeat nature of it all without any logical followthrough... for a toy commercial, that is. To reiterate, not a fan. big grin

*.. and of course Anthrax working with John Carpenter.

That long FOR ETERNIA 25 minutes suite in 5 parts is the best super-hero/heroic fantasy scoring I've have ever heard these last 20 years.

    Absolutely fantastic tour-de-force.
This is 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE/CLOVERFIELD PARADOX music in super-hero mode.

Bear McCreary is a total genius!
He is my confirmed new hero with a Jerry Goldsmith equal status.

His odd meters, fast pace changes and writing for brass are so exhilarating.
And he damn knows how to write good themes....

It also reminds me some top James Newton Howard efforts like KING KONG.

It was a slow day in the office, so I took the opportunity to sit back and just listen to the For Eternia suite - and good lord, it's f*cking incredible. Hugely thematic, epic, sweeping heroic...I actually paused it once and said to myself, out loud " DAMN this is great".

Gotta say, I agree , it's the BEST fantasy/superhero music I've heard in years. It blew me away.

If you haven't, check out McCreary's music to the video game GOD OF WAR.

Or, Ramin Djawadi's score to the video game LOST WORLD, or Marco Beltrami's SEVENTH SON. Lots of pretty decent fantasy music.
