This release by Beat Records is from 1970 and described as one of his western scores. I'm intrigued and would like to get some feedback. Beat doesn't have samples and it would be a blind buy. What do you guys think of this one? Thanks!

Get down!

Levantando al aire los sombreros
Vamos a matar, vamos a matar, compañeros
Pintaremos de rojo sol y cielo
Vamos a matar, vamos a matar, compañeros
Hay que ganar corriendo al pistolero
Vamos a matar, vamos a matar, compañeros
Hay que morir persiguiendo al guerrillero
Vamos a matar, vamos a matar, compañeros
Luchando por el hambre sin dinero
Vamos a matar, vamos a…

Not that thrilled, to be honest. I find the song off-key and grating (do doubt intentionally so), and repeated too many times. I also don't find the other material up to his usual spaghetti western standard. But I'm aware it has its fans.

Yup, a great re-release by Beat Records. That main title is bonkers, the film version (also on the CD) is much calmer. They also re-released My Name Is Nobody, but you must already have that one. I hardly ever listen to the Dollars trilogy these days, it's usually: Vamos a Matar Compañeros, My Name Is Nobody, Giu La Testa, Tepepa & Companeros.

Throwing hats in the air
We are going to kill, we are going to kill, comrades
We will paint the sun and sky red
We are going to kill,we are going to kill, comrades
You have to win by running the gunman
We are going to kill, we are going to kill, comrades
You have to die chasing the guerrilla
We are going to kill, we are going to kill, comrades
Fighting for hunger without money

Thanks, Damian - they don’t write them like that anymore!

Alessandroni whistling on the Penguin is great. (See 2nd theme above).

The main title i first came across on uk LP Film favourites Rca in 1975, which we mentioned before.

After that i got the rca Double LP Un film una musica from soundtrack and general that the tracks were taken from.

I had the Film Favourites album as well but on cassette. When my dad fitted a cassette player into his car I got him to play that first. Some great tracks, Companeros amongst them.

To Thor - all the quirkiness was of course deliberate, as you mentioned. I immediately loved the near-disaster quality of it all, similar to Run Man Run, Christy’s song from The Big Gundown. I especially liked the change of pace in what you could call the bridge, where all the colours of Ennio’s westerns were used in turn.

Viva Morricone !

This sums it up nicely. Fantastic score.

I have the 2007 Verita Note release - it's hard to beat that cover:

Right! But I have to admit that I could only confirm it by checking SoundtrackCollector.com. I only know vinyl through my older sister. I'm one of the "CD generation"... big grin

Considering this, having already got a complete Nobody. Is there anything essential on this that isn't already on the Western Quintet that DRG put out years ago? Despite being unable to resist I found Nobody to be a bit repetitive above and beyond what was on that compilation.

Btw, I know I've mentioned this before but Companeroes was the music that was being piped most of the time throughout the Walt Disney World Fort Wilderness campground, when I visited a couple of years ago. Thought it quite sweet that a most American of places was celebrating the cowboy style atmosphere with ITALIAN music.

Is the sound quality of these two Beat Records re-issues the same or better that the previous GDM releases?
