Wow. Having just finished Locke & Key, and then watching RUN! on Netflix last night, I have been absolutely blown away by Torin Borrowdale. Both scores are classic, traditional orchestral powerhouses. Melodic, thrilling and scary. Endlessly creative.

He doesn't appear to have many albums out but I'll definitely be keeping an eye on his output!

What's worse John...no one responding to your thread...or someone negatively? wink
We watched RUN last week and I cannot recall one note of the score.
Maybe the fact that I didn't like the film at all (a low rent MISERY re-do) contributed, I don't know?
It is strange how we all hear things so differently.
We are usually on the same page regarding film music (even if your Jerry-Love is a bit...) wink

There...I've kickstarted your thread at the very least smile

He wrote a gorgeous piano piece for a mobile video game which I absolutely adore. The game is called "Alto's Adventure", and the piece Borrowdale wrote is appropriately titled "Zen Mode".

It is around 7:30 in length. Most listener will likely find the first 4 minutes repetitive and may decide to pass on the piece altogether. I know I almost did. The best part starts from 4:03 - it surprisingly becomes a different piece altogether from that point - completely independent of the ideas he establishes during the first four minutes. But I'd highly recommend sitting through the whole piece.

I quite liked Run! I was astonished to discover afterwards that Kiera Allen is actually disabled. An amazing performance!

I recommend Locke & Key, Kev. It's retro orchestrally the same way that Stranger Things is retro synthelly. The first two episodes wander a bit but once it snaps into gear everything starts to make sense and it's addictive by the end.

Fascinating film music fact #1: Emelia Jones who plays Kinsey is Aled (The Snowman) Jones' daughter

Fascinating film music fact #2: Emilia also played Merry Gejelh in the Doctor Who story The Rings of Akhaten - in which she performed Murray Gold's "The Long Song".

I've replaced the clever links with basic links - hopefully they work better.

I can never get YouTube links to work here....!

Searching is a brilliant score. Reviewed by Daniel Schweiger a few years ago and prompted my purchase of the CD.
