Prominent feature article on the composer of MOONLIGHT, THE BIG SHORT, and the forthcoming teleseries THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD in NY Times Magazine: "Hurting the Sound." Fascinating background: from Harvard to hedge fund to Hollywood. Works very closely with director Barry Jenkins. Burlingame quoted.
It was an interesting article. I don't know his music because I haven't seen the films he's scored. What struck me as odd is that he apparently writes his scores in the presence of the director. Doesn't the director have other more pressing post-production duties?
I've never really cared for anything Britell has done - untill SUCCESSION, that is. I loved that. So now I allow myself to have a little bit of expectation for this railroad thingie.

You don't like his THE KING, Thor? I think it's a brilliant, dark and atmospheric score that fits the tone of the movie like a glove.
That's the one, yes. I liked it a lot. Interesting and atmospheric take on historical and Shakespearean characters. Great writing, acting and, well, scoring.
