Goldenthal began drinking whiskey when writing the score to Cobb. Hes since gone on record saying he hates whiskey but it got him that much closer to the character (or something). He also found that it made his voice more raspy, so he'd either drink or gargle the stuff (can't remember which) before stepping into the sound booth.
