There are three tracks from this early score by Craig Safan on the recently acquired (by me) Lesser Known Favourites promo CD, totalling around 8 minutes.
He apologises in the notes for 'overwriting' and 'too many notes' in his youthful exhuberance, but I find this kind of 70s style scoring a pure joy.
All those string flurries and flourishes, ala Lee Holdridge, are right up my street.
I love 'em.

I read recently that this score might have been an easier release, when it was under/owned by MGM, but could be more complicated now frown
Safan has the full score and has apparently had the tapes transferred digitally.
I hope BSX can manage to sneak this one out.
I'd love more of the same (all 3 tracks on the promo are great).
It was a hit film in the USA, thanks to the success of Star Wars and its main star, Mark Hamill.
Any other fans out there?

Those horns at the start nearly took my eyebrows off, but I like it a lot.
Even though it is full of youthful energy it manages to stay cool in terms of tone, and that balances out the high tempo and 'splash' of the music. It avoids sounding too shiny and innocent, which I wish more composers could do when dealing with upbeat stuff.
I remember enjoying the movie as a kid, but I have not seen it since.

Yeah. I'd love to hear the whole score.
The 3 tracks available feature that typical 70s rhythm section, some keyboards and ridiculously over the top strings and horns just blasting away because they can.
I could listen to that stuff all day.

Yes, the drum kit bit is very dated/very "LSO Plays Classic Rock"-type thing, but charming in its own way.

Yes, reminded me of Andrew Powell/AP Project/Ladyhawke at certain moments.

Dang it, Kev, now I need to hear the other two tracks, lol. I very distinctly remember my middle school self asking my dad to see if there was a soundtrack LP for this and being disappointed to find out no. It would be a blast to hear the entire thing.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention!

He shouldn't be apologizing for too many notes; if anything he should apologize for not making more fun scores like this. :-)

By the way, you'll see his name next year in one of my TV series threads. Possibly later this year.

Yes ,This score & soundtrack definitely need to be released in full entirety. Which label is the question?

Kev, if you haven't, check out the FSM release of David Shire's score for THE BIG BUS. Lots of fun '70sismsĀ© throughout.
