The track doesnt sound like a SCREAM movie at all.

But it was still a very nice listen. Hope he made some good variations of Sid's theme!

Ugh my wallet!

Ordered the CD at UK store (along with the Beltrami 6 CD set). Saw that the exclusive (300 copies) color vinyl was sold out. I'm not really a vinyl person anyway. But then I saw it was still available in the US store so I ordered it. Figured it might be rare, lol!

Bread and water will be my diet the next month big grin

Gave it a few listens. A solid horror score but for me it lacks the personality of Beltrami's scores for the franchise or Tyler's own "Darkness Falls".

I do like the electronics used in 'Chromeface', giving it a slighly Carpenter-esque vibe and the use of Sid's Theme in 'History Repeats'. Tyler quoting Zimmer's "Broken Arrow" did confuse me for just a second until I remembered it was used in the second film as a theme for Dewey.

It seemed a bit non-descript to me. I liked the last cue and some of the quieter cues, but my first impression was that it was quite anonymous. I'm seeing it again tomorrow and have the CD on the way, so I hope to change my mind.

I've seen people complaining about the lack of musical references to the old movies, but the movie really doesn't lend itself to them.

There was some though, but not much.
I'm not sure how much I can say about it. Will it be spoilers to mention score themes? lol!

Saw the film yesterday, in the process of reviewing it. As far as the music is concerned (I'm currently listening to the score album on Youtube), I can't honestly tell much, if any, difference between Tyler's and Beltrami's music for the series. If you made a playlist of all five scores and put it on random, I doubt that Tyler's music would immediately stand out.

Did you like the movie. I thought it was better than part 4 but I did have issue with the reveal of the killer and thought that's when the film fell apart. Tyler's score was just flat to me.

I like the movie very much. But it would not have worked 8 years ago.
It's strength lies in the 10-year gap and all the insider jokes and reflective social comentaries about fandoms and movie trends of the recent decade. The new characters are very well crafted, but most of the horror sequences lack the suspense and punch of the predecessors.

As a fan of the entire franchise, my ranking would be

1. Scream 1996 (there's no competition)
2. Scream 2
3. Scream 4
4. Scream 2022
5. Scream 3 (conceived as end of a trilogy, it becomes weaker with each new entry + this is the only one, where the revelation of the killer feels forced and contrived)

I adore the Beltrami scores, but I think Tyler's score is adequate and gets the job done, but is unremarkable as a listening experience - could've been much worse, though.

I really liked this movie! Did I love it?

Maybe not yet, but these types of movies always requires a couple of viewings for me.
I felt the exact same way about Scream 3 and Scream 4 as well. Today, I love those even if they have some major flaws. This new movie had its flaws as well (some of the writing and the third act felt a bit messy and rushed), but when it was good, it was fucking brilliant!! I am off to watch it again right now and I am sure I will like it even more after that. There was so much stuff going on and I was so excited to just see a new SCREAM movie, almost as if I had an adrenalin rush or something, lol!

I was surprised that I didnt find the new cast to be super annoying. I kinda expected I would.
They were actually ok. And my biggest fear about this movie was that it would fall in the hands of WOKE and political stuff as so many new movies and tv shows have done the last couple of years. But it didnt, at all.

As of now, and I also think in the long run after I get "used" to the new movie my ratings will be:

SCREAM 2
SCREAM
SCREAM 5
SCREAM 4
SCREAM 3

And holy crap, so many easter eggs going on! I didnt notice half of them so I had to look it up online:

Kirby is confirmed to be alive. Twice! Sidney is married to Mark Kincaid from SCREAM 3. Dewey has Tatum's ashes on a shelf. Gale made fun of her bangs from SCREAM 3 Plus so many more!

The score was OK. I liked the emotional stuff even if it dont sound like a Scream movie. At all!
The suspense stuff was also cool, and actually did at times have the Beltrami-sound, imo! Listened to the album last night it was nice, but nothing made me think "wow!!" like the others do. So all in all, Tyler did a good job, but I really missed Beltrami and will never understand why they didnt bring him back for this! Specially when they want this movie to be a love letter to the fans and build on nostalgia etc... oh well!

Finally got to see this tonight. Thought it was….okay. Some nice moments and pretty enjoyable but just didn’t like it the way I did the new Halloween stuff.
What I did think was pretty great was Brian Tyler’s score in it. I had been a bit sceptical early on and wasn’t that taken with the first listen on a Spotify but I ‘d gone back to it a few times and thought it was pretty great hearing it in the film tonight. Almost made me forget it wasn’t Marco! If there’s more of these films I hope he’s the new ‘Scream’ guy.. Definately buying the Varese cd now.

The new score has really grown on me. I still dont feel like its from a SCREAM movie (except maybe a few moments of the suspense stuff), but it still sounds good. I love the new theme he created (all though I wish he didnt use it for the OG characters).

I will anyway, once its out digitally, try to remove the score channel and rescore it using Marco's 1 - 4 scores.
Just to check! lol! big grin

Brilliant! Lol… thats the devotion of a real Scream fan! I bow my head to you big grin
If the series is taking a new turn away from the ‘legacy’ characters, I don’t think it’s the worst idea having a new composer. No one’s going to nail this like Marco but at least Brian’s a good ‘un.
Just wondered….am I right in thinking that Scream 3 was your favourite score as you were waiting on that expansion? If so what was it you liked particularly over the others?

Yes, SCREAM 3 has always been my favorite Scream score. The others are all amazing (particular SCREAM 2), but I just love Sid's Theme and it was used so much in the third one. So many variations of it. I also love the mix of electronics and orchestra. Its just the right balance for me (I dont like it when its too electronic or too orchestral). I also loved the suspense score in this movie more than the others. Specially the fight between Sid and Roman. And there are some very nice cues in some of the more "boring" talking scenes. Like "At The Station" is really beautiful and also "Sid Arrives", "Milton Takes Meetings" and "Sidney's Call". These are cues I feel no one really notices or pay attention to because of their scenes. But they are really good wink
