Announced by Music Box Records yesterday - didn't see a thread yet. I'm not familiar with this one, but always happy to see more Delerue!

Remastered and expanded edition.
12-page CD booklet with French and English liner notes by Sylvain Pfeffer.

In collaboration with KG Productions and EMI Music Publishing, Music Box Records proudly presents the premiere CD release of two Georges Delerue scores: Conseil de famille (Family Council, 1986) and Le Point de mire (Focal Point, 1977).

After several mainstream political thrillers (The Sleeping Car Murders, Z, The Confession, State of Siege), Greek-French film director Costa-Gavras wanted to try his hand at the comical genre with Conseil de famille, starring Johnny Hallyday, Fanny Ardant and Guy Marchand. For his unique collaboration with the film director, Georges Delerue delivered a rich and colourful score. His distinctive personal touch can be found in the numerous romantic motifs and themes: the cello theme, associated with the character of Marianne, with its exacerbated and tortured romanticism, the theme associated with Sophie with its great modal melody and Martine's theme with a delicate flute motif that is just as typical of Delerue’s style. The tension conveyed through some pieces, such as Suspense, Premier chantier or Les bulgares se déchaînent, with their pizzicato strings and dissonances, reminds us that the film, in spite of its off-beat comical tone, drags us into a dangerous outlaw world. The reoccurring presence of synthetic tones, quite unusual for the composer, in some versions of the main theme, portrays the male characters with a vigorous rendition.

Inspired by a Pierre Boulle’s novel, Le Point de mire was the first film of the Belgian director and screenwriter Jean-Claude Tramont. Georges Delerue composed a score dominated by Danielle's theme, the main character performed by Annie Girardot. Played on accordion, the piece is more characteristic of the composer’s writing style. For Jacques Dutronc’s character (Julien's theme), Georges Delerue composed a theme entrusted to a transverse flute playing in the low register over violin pads and ethnical percussion. Sprinkled with dissonances, tense strings and light electronic effects, the music also highlights the dark and pessimistic quality of the film.

This expanded edition has been fully remastered from the original recording sessions courtesy of Delerue's archives. For Conseil de famille, the composer's back-up sessions tape was provided for this expanded edition (the only surviving source in reasonably good condition). The CD comes with a 12-page booklet with liner notes by Sylvain Pfeffer, discussing the films and the scores. The release is limited to 1000 units.

New Delerue.
Feels like it's been a while.
Sounds interesting.

For CONSEIL it appears both Milan album masters must be missing. There were two album releases (Milan A264) with virtually different content. I have the first one and it's a real disappointment, containing lots of unremarkable synthetic rhythms. Apparently Delerue wasn't happy with the music released either and gave Milan additional dramatic tracks which they utilized and replaced the first ones, without changing the A264 #. Disques Cinemusique did one of their better LP dubs a few years ago for a very limited CD-R release which contained most of the best tracks from both albums. This new release comes from the Delerue archives, apparently the only surviving source " in reasonably good condition"...

So... "this expanded edition has been fully remastered from the original recording sessions courtesy of Delerue's archives" except for 26 of the 35 tracks which are in "reasonably good condition".

Presumably we're meant to conclude that "expanded edition" relates only to Le Point de Mire?

Thank you for this information which I had never heard of despite the fact that I remember seeing the LP(s?) in record stores and that I saw the film 2 years ago.
Nevertheless, you are mistaken when you say that Disques Cinémusiques released a limited CD of the music. Maybe you're getting mixed up with another Delerue score. This MBR CD is the very first time Conseil de famille has ever been released on this format (although the main title was included in the compilation Du riffifi au ciné 3)

Conseil de Famille has of course been released by Éditions Milan Music in digital form only a couple of years ago.

Conseil de Famille has of course been released by Éditions Milan Music in digital form only a couple of years ago.

As far as I can see it Milan released only the first LP album (with a duration of just 25 minutes) in digital form, but not the longer and much more interesting second one (which had a duration of 35 minutes). Quite odd:

As you say Stefan, it's indeed very odd to the extent I know of no other similar case. I don't have the original albums but I assume that this CD is gathering all the tracks featured on both LP's. Or it could be that Colette Delerue decided to wipe out some stuff that she considered redundant or less interesting for whatever reason.
I also second the fact that Ciné Musique didn't release it.

At least all 20 tracks of the second LP album are also on the Music Box CD. These are easy to identify as the track titles are identical with the ones on that LP. Three have been edited together as one track so this leaves 9 tracks - most of these probably come from the first LP album. There were also three or four tracks which were on both LPs.

Surprised to see so few comments on these two scores from the great Georges Delerue. Received my CD about a week ago and have played it numerous times for the listening pleasure it gives me. Perhaps you have forgotten about it. If you have, I hope you will rectify the situation. It is full of beautiful melodies.

How excited I was to find this in my mailbox....I pretty well only purchase new Delerue CDs these days. My disc-dub of both LPs sounds great, but this new CD boasts somewhat fuller, more dynamic sound; however, because it comes from a back-up tape, a little over-modulation distortion appears now and then, but hopefully not enough to distract from Delerue's delightful creations. I guess the Milan original tapes had disappeared, but better this than nothing. POINT is in stereo with good sound. Thank you, Music Box and Colette Delerue !

I hope backup tapes can be located for NOBODY RUNS FOREVER. The 6-CD set included the wrong take on the main title--the film has only the jangly instruments at the beginning, not running throughout...

Re: POINT DE MIRE; to correct my earlier comment: this new disc does indeed include all the music from this film. I had not listened intently enough to all the tracks to determine they are complete. I apologize for implying that they weren't...
