I keep reading threads that digital recordings are better than cd this pretty much confirms it ain't - I've heard other downloads too that are so weak-tiny those are on cd or lp already - seems too me its a good way too gouge a newer market for those who are so passionate & will take anything! People should learn just buy downloads from legit boutiques only or just hold-out for a physical cd!
If I had my way i'd scrap all downloads down the pan today its where they belong!
I just got a reply from Mark Finch, director of PR at Ship to Shore media.
He has researched the issue and discovered that there was a problem with the files for Maniac Cop. The problem has been fixed and he sent me a link to the corrected files - which sound much better, and stereo!
Anyone who bought this I suggest dropping them an e-mail.

Well that's cool. They never said a word to me or offered new stereo files. They just refunded my money. Guess I'll have to try it again.

Thanks. I just sent them an e-mail. Let's wait for their answer.
Mark from Ship To Shore replied my e-mail sending me the corrected stereo files.
I think the previous dowload sounded good (although in mono, which I didnt detected as an issue because I did not had this score before and assumed it was mono like other scores for low budget horror of the era such as The Prowler), but the new files are much better indeed.
Just got my refund for the digital download. They never said a word. Just the refund through PayPal. SO professional.
Yes, they were ashamed by the sound quality, if they can't offer something that's fully fledged that isn't professional!
Joel's score is very-good - i'd take that & Chattaway's - I expect both too get a release one-day, maybe that's BSX territory!
I AM happy they made it right and fixed the problem.
I dropped a line to BSX suggesting Joel's score to MC3 as they've released other stuff of his. I think it would be good all around releasing it. Give the music fans what they want and maybe make a little money for the family. I know Joel had a daughter. I remember seeing a picture of him and her on his website. She had the Jaffa tattoo from Stargate on her forehead. It was cute!

I don't know Joel's music much, but he could score stuff with ease what I've heard, his Untouchables is splendid - he knew what sci-fi music was in projects Moon 44 is very-cool & I love his Helen of Troy.
I will check that image out, thanks! I never knew he had a daughter its a pity that he departed not long after his father that was a sad shock, i'm going too check more of his scores he was talented!
I did a re-watch of the Maniac Cop trilogy this weekend. Such a shame Joel's score for #3 has never had a release. I think I'm going to do an extract of a couple of pieces of his music from the DVD/Blu-ray. Kate's Nightmare 33:48-36:16 and the end credits 1:20:53-1:24:39. Those are pretty "clean" snippets of music that aren't buried under dialogue and/or sound effects. I think I'll make my own MANIAC COP Soundtrack Collection. It'll have the soundtracks for 1 & 2 that have been officially released, plus the 2 tracks I pull from #3. It'll all fit nicely on a CD-R. I think I'll whip up some artwork in Photoshop as well. A shame I have to do all this myself. I'd gladly buy it if they'd bother making it.

Yeah, Joel died 8 years after his dad and Jerry died about half a year after his own dad so the Goldsmith family really had their fair share of family tragedy.
Just curious, did Chattaway write a full score to MANIAC COP 2, or did it contain several repurposed cues from part one? The soundtrack CD for part 2 has rather curious editing which inspired my question.
I would love to see DRAGON’S DOMAIN issue a CD collection release of all three scores together.

I'm not sure. I can't recall the music from the second film that well. I GUESS that's kind of a compliment to his score if I didn't really notice it. If a score is done well, many times the music and film just blend together into one experience. There ARE some flashbacks in MC2 and MC3 from the first film, so some of his score from the first one would have been re-used. I've listened to the MC1 album way more than the second. Gonna hafta change that and pop in the MC2 CD now.
It's definitely an all-new score. The only music re-used is for the prison flashback, since the entire sequence is just lifted from the first film anyway.
