I've finally come around to look closer into "Un certain Richard Dorian" (A certain Richard Dorian).
Hossein composed a very dry and minimalist score in a jazzy idiom performed by a super small ensemble augmented with sparsely used electronic effects.
Here are three suites from the series' original soundtracks. Together with the already uploaded music they virtually represent nearly the entire score as heard in the episodes. There are episodes without any score except from the main and end titles.
There are some selections with dialogue (in French) and some sound effects.
I'm extremely pleased to present this 1956 song by the French ensemble Les Bass' Harmonistes (aka Bass' Harmonistees). The song is based on a melody André Hossein composed for his film score "Les salauds vont en enfer" in 1955. Michel Ramos recorded a few numbers and released them on a EP (check out the embeded video in one of my previous posts).
Now, back to Bass' Harmonistes: I knew there was a song. But I couldn't find it as the generic title "Black Blues" got me nowhere until last week when I finally found it. It is a great song beautifully performed by the bass singers and Jean-Michel Defaye with his orchestra. When was the last time we had a group with bass singers doing pop and jazz songs?
Black Blues
The song captures the sadness that Hossein was so capable to meld into his music.
