The production music company London Sync has an album by Randy Miller called "Impossible Journey," available to preview here: https://www.londonsyncmusic.com/albums/lsync045 This appears to be an example of a film score being recycled/repackaged as production music. I have no idea what film this might have been written for, as it doesn't seem to line up with anything in Miller's IMDB listing. I guess it could also be a rejected score. In any case, it is a lovely Americana-tinged work for full orchestra, highly recommended to fans of the genre.

I just updated the title of this thread to reflect the fact that I solved the mystery: the production music album that I discovered in my original post is, in fact, the score to DREAMRIDER (1993) which I believe was only previously released in the form of a handful of tracks on Miller's limited composer promo "Music for Films." It is a really wonderful '90s era Americana/inspirational/sports score. Too bad it never got a proper release.

Realizing now that this label has quite a few Randy Miller releases, many of which appear to be recycled/unreleased film scores... if you are a fan of his work, do check out this website.

I really like his orchestral score for "Living in Peril". It had a "composer promo" release in 1997 and can recently be found for just $5 or $6 at Amazon. Very good sound too. Thanks for posting the "Impossible Journey" pieces. Very nice. Unfortunately, more recent stuff I've heard of Miller's is increasingly synth-heavy.

Great, Jeff -- thanks so much for your response. I feel like most of my posts here garner very few, if any replies, and I often feel like I'm wasting my time posting about the relatively obscure and esoteric scores that I seek out. Maybe people have blocked me, who knows? But I thought someone on this board would be interested to know that this forgotten gem was available at last.

Do you know if this available as a lossless download? I looked on the site but apparently I have to go through registration before I can get any buying info. And I don't like registering on sites just to get some basic info.

Nigel, I have to express my deep appreciation to you for your pointing out "hidden gems" of film scoring every so often, when one of them pops up on your audio screen. I do trust your judgment and I do take notice when you recommend a score. Some months ago, I believe it was you who similarly recommended HALVDAN VIKING by Norwegian composer Gaute Storaas. And right you were! Thanks for that also. It's a Norwegian kid's movie with a good score and is not available on video with English subtitles. I had to settle for a no-frills French-subtitled DVD and auto-translated the French subtitles. Rather awkward, to say the least. A number of years ago, I had written to Mr. Storaas in Norway about one of his scores and (I'll be damned) he mailed me a copy. What a nice fellow. A number of his more recent scores have been made available on the usual digital sellers (iTunes, etc.). DREAMRIDER (also known by its two-word title as DREAM RIDER) is a very heartwarming, orchestral, melodic, nicely-orchestrated score that is a pleasure to listen to. I've already streamed it onto a CD-RW (including the extra 4 "alternate mix" cues that the casual listener might overlook, as I initially did). Didn't take long. Just click on "play all cues." Basil - Lossless, Schmossless. The analog music sounds fine. But, if one wants to pay for the digital purity, go right ahead. I declined to register, just like you did. All of the cues total about 37:26. I'll pop the CD-RW into Sound Forge Audio Restoration and CD Architecht and make myself a very nice CDR version, so I can listen to it in the car. The "MUSIC BY RANDY MILLER" promo CD has 6 cues from the score. London Sync lists 194 individual cues for Randy Alan Miller (including IMPOSSIBLE JOURNEY /DREAM RIDER). The film is about a fellow who loses one of his legs by medically necessary amputation. As part of his rehabilitation, he gets into cycling and then into competitive cycling, hence the title(s): the "impossibility" of being a one-legged bicycle racer. Based on a true story. Thanks again, Nigel! Now I have some unexpected (but pleasantly anticipated) listening to do! Ron Burbella

GOOD NEWS!! When I ran the streamed DREAM RIDER (including the five alternative cues) and did my appropriate editing, the CDR came to 22 cues (36:51). If you add up the six long cues (a number of cues seem to be edited into suites) on Randy Miller's MUSIC FOR FILMS, they add up to 36:20. [1:47 + 6:14 +3:52 + 8:04 + 8:19 + 8:24 = 36:20] It appears that the whole score is there. The missing 31 seconds probably can be explained by the editing out the silences when combining cues into suites. So there we have it, the full score...and lossless, Basil! Ron Burbella Excellent detective work. Thanks!
