This is one of those Goldsmith scores that's an "honorary western" in my brain thanks to the Hispanic element. This, High Velocity, and Breakout all connect in my mind to scores like 100 Rifles. And I love 'em. I'm really hoping LLL found sources for previously unreleased music on this one. Even if they didn't, that cover art sure is an upgrade. I wonder who wrote the notes on this. Yavar

I was going to joke earlier that the June titles from LLLR would have a Goldsmith, since we've had some many lately, but I thought: Nah, cant' be; been too many lately.

The film is really...Not Very Good. Static and pedestrian. I remember really not liking the film, when I viewed it on video during the 80s, but man, those Main Titles, with that Spanish sound and those BIG flourishes. It was brilliant. I'm thinking 'what film is Goldsmith seeing here!?" It certainly wasn't the one I had to endure. I agree with Yavar, there is certainly a BREAKOUT vibe to the music. I recall a diving bell sequence with some really heavy music not unlike his later LEVIATHAN. A shame he never got to deliver a full on new Love Theme though. From that period his Love Themes were really nice. His adaptations of the song 'The Very Thought Of You' are okay, but something by JG would have been preferable to me. Didn't he have to deal with that very same song again, in FOREVER YOUNG?

I'm not sure if I've ever seen the film ... but, Kev, Ray Noble's composition The Very Thought of You is a lovely tune (I have numerous recordings) and, for me, next to JG's Main Title it is the highlight of the score!

Oh yes Mitch, I agree, it's a very nice song...a Classic, no doubt. But I wanted a new Love Theme by JG at the time (and would probably still take an unused one now)

That "Diving Bell" track that Kev mentions is terrific. I like the score on the whole, and it does have a few good, and lengthy, action pieces on it, but I too would have preferred less of "The Thought of You". Did anyone mention how much (if any) of the score was missing from the earlier release(s)?

I think Jeff Bond has said there's a bit more villain (Jason Robards) music on this release, so nothing too important to me (or maybe even you, Graham). Although I imagine the sound will be better (the old release still sounds great to my ears).

Although I imagine the sound will be better (the old release still sounds great to my ears). I played this quite a lot at one time (and fondly remember discussing it with Wilcox, D). I generally skipped the Hawaiian music. I'm waiting for someone to take TG's post seriously... Nah, can't wait any longer - Cabo Blanco is nowhere near Hawaii. There is no Hawaiian music on the CD. You cannot be serious. Not even for one minute, can you?

IN HARM'S WAY, Tall One. Don't fret - I also skip those tracks on that.

I posted first. Oh, you also edited your post, rendering me nonsensical again.
