Hadn’t realised that the Liverpool-born actor had appeared in four John Barry-scored films:

King Rat
The Whisperers
The Wrong Box
Deadfall

Not a bad CV for someone who made his name in sitcoms.

And 2 Kubrick films no less - 2001 A Space Odyssey and Barry Lyndon - loved him in that duel scene.

Lyndon brings us back to Rosenman again...

He's a good supporting actor.

Becoming famous for sitcoms in his later years is kind-of double edged for me.

On the one hand, he achieved a fame he wasn't achieving as a supporting actor in serious features.

On the other hand, he's remembered for low budget tat. Funny low budget tat, yes, but tat.

Me, I'd have preferred to be remembered for 2001.

Cheers

He was actually in 5 John Barry scored films. He was also in A Jolly Bad Fellow 1964 (US title They All Died Laughing)

Apparently I DID get where I am today without knowing how many John Barry-scored films Leonard Rossiter was in.

Rossiter & Rossington were casted in The Wrong Box - Rossington was in the 3 earliest Carry-On movies, they're better watches than the later one's that get more nauseating, Barring Carry-On Screaming!

I didn't get where I am today by not knowing whether Mrs TG nor yourself got where you were today without knowing what I'm referring to.

Which is great. Super, in fact.

Bottles of sprout and nettle wine on their way to you all.

Just a digression here to give a nod to Ronnie Hazlehurst's theme to that show, a melancholy and fittingly wistful piece that perfectly summed up the gradual comic breakdown of Rossiter's character. Hazlehurst was a busy man in the 70s and 80s at the BBC, and this was one of his peaks.
