Yes, there was music mined from other episodes. "The Man Trap," "Charlie X," "Where No Man Has Gone Before," "The Enemy Within," "Mudd's Women," "What Are Little Girls Made Of?" and "The Naked Time." Actually, I'd say pretty much every score recorded to that point.

This topic brings to mind a music error that is in all of the remastered versions. One piece of music that was tracked in was "Dead Crater" from The Man Trap. This was used at the end of the scene where Pike first speaks to The Keeper. When the "restored" episode was made for DVD and then subsequently for Blu-ray, the cue was not removed from the audio mix. I personally have done my own isolated tracks for these episodes for my own personal enjoyment, but I didn't make a list lol.

That moment was originally unscored. "We may soon begin the experiment" is greeted with silence and then right to the Enterprise briefing room. And noooope, it's not easy to make scores to every episode. It's actually really a pain, I did it for The Corbomite Maneuver and stopped there. Just the idea of tackling a cut-and-paster like Balance of Terror sends me into fits. And it's MUCH easier to do today than it was in 1966 when they had to physically cut and paste tapes.

I seem to recall that the Remastered version of the episode at least initially had a cue from "The Doomsday Machine" placed into it, which of course would have been impossible when the two-parter was originally tracked... It still does. The DVDs and the Stereo audio track on the Blu Rays have "The Doomsday Machine" music and the Fred Steiner rerecordings from "Charlie X" instead of the actual cues.

Music editing on a TV series of that vintage involved cutting and splicing magnetic film, which was sprocketed and with experience was easier to work with than recording tape. But yeah, it's a much simpler job with digital tools - to say nothing about the physical toll cutting film would take on your neck and back. Thanks for the correction, that's good info. A hell of a job and honestly a pretty crummy listening experience on its own.

That is interesting! Do you know if there is a track from "The Cage" that was supposed to be used in that segment? Nope. I have a copy of the Portuguese VHS of the B&W Workprint and there is no music there at all.
