This is only the tracked music from the first season, most of which originally came from low-budget serials and films. I find that this is pretty much what stayed with me from the series. I think whatever they came up with when they went to original scoring for the later seasons was uninspired. Certainly, if you don't have this, you should get it.

I could not find a thread devoted to this album. How is it? I watched this show as a kid - I think WPIX Channel 11 in New York ran it - but I don't really remember the music. We grew up in the same TV market. WPIX "Eleven Aliiiiive!" was my favorite station.

Superman came on after the 5 minute newsbreak by Kevin Kennedy. WPIX is engraved on my psyche. Yankees esp. Yeah, me too. Every time Yankees went into extra innings, WPIX bumped up everything a half hour. The Honeymooners and The Odd Couple started late. What got scarified? Star Trek. Which is why - to this day - I hate sports.

This CD was a wondrous trip to my childhood as the Mutel library stuff was used in any number of shows from that early-to-late 50's period--TERRY AND THE PIRATES, CHINA SMITH, BOSTON BLACKIE, CAPTAIN MIDNIGHT, SKY KING (the first season), and the list goes on and on. To finally have this music clear of sfx and dialogue was just thrilling if you were of a certain age.

"The Adventures of Superman" of course remained in syndication at least into the 1970s in the places I lived, perhaps even longer elsewhere. Even before you posted, I was comparing the experiences of someone my age, who has received so much film/TV music from his childhood, with someone who grew up with TV in the early 1950s or even serials in the 1940s. I'm guessing that folks from those age groups have not received nearly the same amount of film/TV music they heard as young children.

PS - back then WPIX ran 35mm prints of SUPERMAN (and several other shows). And Howard, this is just for you: https://vimeo.com/567421845 Gloria Okon. Oh, my. Can see her face, it's as crystal clear as yesterday. Talk about engraved, I've remembered every second of that Chiller Theatre intro. It's funny, too, but I swear the most repeated airing was Frankenstein's Daughter. When Felix Locher showed up in that aging episode of Star Trek, I was waiting for him to call out, "Trudy! Trudy!" Oh and hey Scott, speaking of the Yankees, can still see Mel Stottlemyre hitting his inside-the-park grand slammer off Bill Monbouquette of the Red Sox. Pretty sure it was a weekday afternoon game, am too lazy to look it up (1965?). Instant replay was an infrequent thing then and they played it back several times the next couple of innings. Ha, it was even before the days of "Pix Playback" if memory serves.
