Just listened through this, it's just so so good isn't it.

This edition sounds really lovely. Very sensible reverb use, and so lovely to hear the End Titles without the clunky edit.

Curious... where's the clunky edit on the previous editions?

Me also. I don't remember anything 'clunky' on this release?

My copy is arriving today.

On the transition from the “nice” section of the end credits back into the main groove. Rhythmically it’s a tiny bit early, and you can hear it’s not the cleanest of splices. Done to the tape which was in Shire’s possession I imagine. You can hear it without the edit in the end credits of the BluRay. But it’s mono. Chris has managed to smooth the stereo one out.

It’s the little things that bother us isn’t it! ??

Well I was hoping to find out today, but DHL have told me it's NOT coming today after all, as it's delayed in Leipzig - a familiar tale from DHL big grin

Mine arrived yesterday and yes, I do think this qualifies as an upgrade, since the sound does have more punch. It's a slightly different edit to the one I've been used to listening to but none the worse for that. The booklet is excellent too (although so was the booklet of the previous edition) - and it's nice to finally have a musician's listing for this score.

For those who aren't aware, the 'old' FSM print magazine did an expanded feature/analysis of the score in issue #68 (April '96) and this is still available to download:

The Taking of Pelham 123 is one of the great '30 minute' albums smile

Just out of curiosity, has this film ever been released on blu-ray ?

Kino Lorber recently put out a nice special edition with some great Interviews including David Shire.

Seek out that edition.

I'm hoping SAE will be shipping out their copies soon!

For anyone who got this - how does it compare to the earlier versions? I only have the original Retrograde, which was always good enough for me. But I'm tempted....

Actually, for some reason I missed some of the earlier posts talking about the new release, which make it sound good. My main question, is it enough different to warrant another purchase? Especially as I will upload it into Apple Music, so not going to be giving it audiophiliac attention.
