I enjoy all three of the original trilogy. Raiders remains what I consider the greatest adventure film of my generation. I find Indiana Jones and the Holy Grail to be more fun overall than The Temple of Doom, but thing ToD has more exciting sequences and a better score. What I loved about ToD is the look at Indy as a slick "James Bond" type adventurer during the opening sequence. It was also a nice look at how he changed a bit from a soldier of fortune (and glory) to someone interested in discovering the secrets of legends and then finally a man who simply wanted to preserve history for future generations. I actually liked Short Round, he was funny and a reliable companion. Not as thrilled with Willie, but Kate Capshaw was cute. It's a solid entry in the series.

Well, there's this... He seduced a child When Marion Ravenwood and Indiana Jones meet in Raiders of the Lost Ark, it's not the first time they've crossed paths. They've got history. Remember, Marion decks Indy for a very good reason. Roughly 10 years before Raiders, Marion had a fling with a much older Indiana. The exact size of the age gap is up for debate (actress Karen Allen was 30 when she played Marion the first time, while Harrison Ford was 39), but all evidence indicates that good ol' Indy is most likely a statutory rapist. During the original Raiders of the Lost Ark story meetings, George Lucas proposed that Indy "could have known this little girl when she was just a kid. Had an affair with her when she was 11." After Steven Spielberg protested, Lucas decided that "15 is right on the edge... Once she's 16 or 17, it's not interesting anymore." In the official Raiders of the Lost Ark novelization, Marion is 15 when Indy starts sleeping with her, and he ditches her a year or two later. In the movie, Marion claims that she was "a child" during the affair, and Indiana doesn't deny it. Given the background information, it's easy to read between the lines: Indiana Jones slept with an underage girl, and we're supposed to shrug it off like it's no big deal. Read More: https://www.looper.com/78616/terrible-things-indiana-jones-ever-done/?utm_campaign=clip I learn more and more about George Lucas every day...

Age of consent in many places is (or was) 15 and above. This was the 30's (or 40's?) not 2021 and they were only nine years apart in age. It's "shocking" only to modern puritan American views.

Does anyone have the story meeting recordings? Or a better, trustworthy link? Here's a link to the story meeting transcripts, if you trust the source. https://moedred.livejournal.com/2009/03/04/ G — He hasn't seen her in twelve years. Now she's twenty-two. It's a real strange relationship. S — She had better be older than twenty-two. G — He's thirty-five, and he knew her ten years ago when he was twenty-five and she was only twelve. G — It would be amusing to make her slightly young at the time. S — And promiscuous. She came onto him. G — Fifteen is right on the edge. I know it's an outrageous idea, but it is interesting. Once she's sixteen or seventeen it's not interesting anymore. But if she was fifteen and he was twenty-five and they actually had an affair the last time they met. And she was madly in love with him and he... S — She has pictures of him. G — There would be a picture on the mantle of her, her father, and him. She was madly in love with him at the time and he left her because obviously it wouldn't work out. Now she's twenty-five and she's been living in Nepal since she was eighteen. It's not only that they like each other, it's a very bizarre thing, it puts a whole new perspective on this whole thing. It gives you lots of stuff to play off of between them. Maybe she still likes him. It's something he'd rather forget about and not have come up again. This gives her a lot of ammunition to fight with.

The PDF of the story conferences that I lifted off the web a few years back certainly seems legit--it's a scanned photocopy of a typed transcript conversation between Lucas, Kasdan, and Spielberg that goes on for 126 pages. It certainly could be fake I suppose but the amount of effort that someone would have put into the content is staggering--there are just too many little details that would have been impossible to fabricate without insider knowledge (Spielberg drops set budget figures from CEOT3K as one example)
