Hi folks,

I've never acquired Japanese SHM CDs before. Are the liner notes/books/booklets written in Japanese or English or both?

For example, do the Japanese SHM versions of The Beatles' super deluxe editions of SPLHCB, White album or Abbey Road have their respective books in English?

Related question: do all countries have their own language version of albums put out by English speaking performers? i.e. does France have French liner notes for Elvis, etc?

Spider, if you haven't already looked, Discogs would be a good place to start for info-gathering.
It's not perfect, of course, being a resource site consisting of contributions uploaded by regular folks.
But the entries which are accompanied by actual scans of the graphics provide at least some of the answers you are looking for.
For example, the Beatles' Pepper release you mentioned (though it's not the SDE) shows that the booklets are in the original English--with supplementary Japanese inserts.
I'm including a link to that particular issue so you can easily see for yourself.
The pics for the SDE are pretty inconclusive.
I guess that owner couldn't be bothered to upload any scans of the booklets.
But given time, eventually someone might.

Yeah, that's a pretty insane-looking link code!
But anyway, all this is academic if you've already checked the site.

Thanks, Octoberman!

I often see mention of that website on these boards, but I've never looked at it closely.
Have you bought/sold anything through there? Is it worth the bother to open an account with them?

I have never bought or sold anything on the site, but I find it's a really valuable source of info when it comes to tracking down specific pressings of LP's and CD's.
It's also an excellent resource for exploring an artist's entire worldwide discography.

I've been tempted to buy items from the sellers that are registered there, but I guess I'm still too wary of getting hosed by speculators that either misrepresent exactly what they are selling or list it for over-inflated prices.
As with everything else in the world of audio, it's "buyer beware".
But my reluctance should not in any way put off anyone else from giving it a try.
Maybe some of our members here already use it.

For me, it's great geeky fun to cruise around in it.

I know I veered off-topic a bit, there.
I'm hoping that someone else here will be able to give you better intel on your question.
Ciao.

I've bought some Cds from discogs.com (probably about 10 lurches in the last 3yrs)but not sold anything. I find the prices inflated to the point of being ridiculous and much prefer ebay. Also on discogs I get sent updates of the scores on my wants list....... Only these are not new to discogs, but regurgitated ones that have been on discogs for months..... So this is really irritating.
