Another amazing comeback, now it's Trevor Jones!

The music is for fantasy horror thriller "To Tokyo", that was released in 2019 in select UK theaters and has been released in the U.S. on VOD and Blu-ray earlier this year.

It's always cool to see when old masters of Hollywood (and not only that) music is back in action. Don't know how it will sounds, like synths and samples, real orchestra or something from here and there, but I'm definitely looking forward for this album.

The soundtrack will be released on August 27, 2021.

That's great news. I remember it was on his website for a few years and then he removed it and I thought he was no longer scoring it as a result.

Didn't he retire at some point?

He was always one of my favourite composers.

This is great news. He is a favourite of mine.

Just a heads up for fans of his, someone is selling his score for Aegis for £9.99 on ebay. I paid over £30 for mine last year so a tenner is a bargain.

I think he did.
This is just a small project directed by his son, I guess.

After a couple of bad experiences he indeed pretty much retired and devoted his time to teaching film scoring.

Definitely a shame, he had a unique voice and has written some of the best scores of the 90's

And 80s! Dark Crystal is one of my all-time faves.

Indeed a very small work for keyboards and both wordless and Japanese vocalizations.
The whole score is rather atmospheric without any raised level of intensity.

The listening process like this it's so unusual experience, when you can barely remember when was the last time you had heard the work of the composer. For me (if memory serves well) it was music for the video game "Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects", I was really shocked, when I discover, that Jones worked on it.

Listening now on Spotify. I think it's a fascinating score -- quite minimal, and free of the size and overtness of his famous work in the 80s and 90s (entertaining as they were). Good on him for reinventing himself a bit now that he's basically "just" a teacher at a South African college. Has kind of a Sakamoto vibe, I think.

Regardless, it's rather weird to have a new Jones score out. A blast from the past.

Listened only two tracks so far. For now it seems like very unusual Jones work. I love the use of Japanese vocals in "To Tokyo Opening" and mystical sound of piano (for some reason its reminds me of music from Silent Hill games).

Heck, now that I'm getting deeper into this, this would be a contender for one of my favourite scores of 2021, if it hadn't been for the fact that it's for a 2018 movie. I'll have to think about how I solve that when I make my annual list.
