Carol Danvers took on the name Captain Marvel several years ago, and she is by far the most popular version of the character since Mar-Vell. So technically Rambeau was Captain Marvel before Danvers, but Danvers has been in existence longer, has better claim to the name, and has been far more popular with that name.

Ah, okay that makes sense. I wondered why they didn't start with Rambeau. It would be like making the first Spider-Man movie about someone other than Peter Parker, but I get going with the most popular incarnation of the character.

I'm sure same day streaming are going to take a bite out of the box office results but this isn't really a good film to base future figures on. Black Widow came out 5-8 years to late, it's a mediocre film at best, the audience are becoming burnt out on the MCU, AND we are still in the middle of a pandemic!

I agree with what you say about streaming having an effect on theatrical takings but Black Widow is by no means a mediocre movie. As for your claim audiences are “burnt out” by the MCU, what exactly are you basing that in? By your own argument you can’t judge things by Black Widow (which, aside from the simultaneous availability on streaming services, also opened when theatres were still imposing very restrictive conditions and the pandemic generally too).

From what I heard its a mediocre movie. The reviews Ive seen backs that up. But I guess that's subjective. I believe Spam Jam 2 did better at the box office.

Ah, so oh haven’t even seen it? Wow. I can think of plenty of terrific movies that reviewers have hated or that have under-performed at the box office.

Sure, there are plenty of films that got poor reviews that I ended up liking once I saw them. But I know what I'm getting with an MCU film. I'm not a fan of SJ to begin with, so she's not a big draw for me. I'm tired of these big CGI films. Enough valid points were made in reviews that show I would not be able to suspend my disbelief.

I saw it.
I even gave it a second viewing just to be extra fair.
All I can say is I didn't hate it.
But it's not up to the standard of the other MCU films. Not even the lesser ones.

Black Widow is human. She doesn't have super strength. I saw some of the action scenes where she is falling great distances and smashing into solid objects over and over again or crashing in disastrous fashion. Every bone in her body should be broken. I just can't suspend my disbelief.

Oh no, I meant Captain Marvel!
My mistake.
I thought that's the movie you were referring to.
Sorry for the confusion.

I have not even seen BW.
Nothing against ScarJo, I just don't thing* the BW character can carry a whole movie.
Sure, it helps to have a bunch of interesting side-characters, but you know what I mean.

I agree with all of this (and I'm a big fan of the MCU, with certain caveats).
