No joke, to write music for more than 400 films and television series in Italy, Spain, Germany, France, USA and Russia. It’s pointless to try to choose the best musical compositions, but some of them have become symbols of an entire era and are easily recognizable from the first notes. We are sure that these films were remembered also thanks to the music of Ennio Morricone

"The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" (1966)

Italian composer Ennio Morricone dies at death
Filmed, just think, in 1966, Sergio Leone's spaghetti western starring Clint Eastwood, Eli Wallach and Lee Van Cleef has aroused genuine interest in viewers for half a century. And in 2003, to the delight of fans, a restored and re-dubbed digital version was released, and now you can enjoy every note of the unique musical leitmotif, styled after the howl of a coyote, created by Morricone. Close your eyes, imagine the fearless Clint Eastwood in a cowboy hat, and this melody, which has been recognized as the most recognizable in the history of cinema, will immediately sound in your head.

"Once Upon a Time in America" ??(1984)

This film was the composer's last collaboration with his close friend, director Sergio Leone. Initially misunderstood and rejected by critics, this dark gangster saga still won the hearts of viewers and now regularly makes the lists of the best films. This is not only the merit of the genius director and talented actors Robert De Niro, James Woods, Elizabeth McGovern, but also the music. The heartfelt and heartbreaking main musical theme of the film is recognized from the first notes.

"The Untouchables" (1987)

Brian De Palma's crime drama about mafia showdowns and Al Capone's gangster underground empire in Prohibition America brought its creators many prestigious awards, and Ennio Moricone received the only Grammy award in his entire career. And who better than him, an Italian who knows firsthand what the mafia is, could convey the musical spirit of confrontation between cold-blooded and self-confident gangsters led by Al Pacino as Capone and the guardians of the law Kevin Costner and Sean Connery, who played the roles of Eliot Ness and Jim Malone ... The shootout scene at Union Station gives goosebumps, thanks in part to the alarming "Machine Gun Lullaby". And the whole film is accompanied by music in the Italian style with bright jazz accents.

"Le professionnel" (1981)

This intense dramatic thriller from Georges Lautner with Jean-Paul Belmondo in the title role, which we recognize not only from the first frames, but also from the first sounds. The name of the film was specially left in French, it is this name that is most suitable for this film. When I was in college I had to write a review of that film and then I did not do the job - had to ask for write my paper at [DELETED]., I could not finish listening to this beautiful music. The musical themes "Chi Mai" and "Le Vent Le Cri" gained worldwide fame, and the composer was nominated for a Cesar Prize. There is everything in these melodies, and strength, and weakness, and the pain of loss, and a ray of hope.

"The Best Offer" (2012)

Giuseppe Tornatore's dramatic thriller with a famously twisted plot can surprise even an experienced viewer. The aftertaste from the unpredictable outcome is only enhanced by the fantastic music of Ennio Morriokone. The compositions "Un Violino", "Volti E Fantasmi", "Cavea" and "La Migliore Offerta" create the magical mood needed to be imbued with the story of love and deceit in the world of expensive art auctions and antiques. What is a true work of art? Maybe every fake has a bit of authenticity, as the main character Jeffrey Rush (Virgil Oldman) said. But one thing we can say for sure, Morricone's music is always authentic, it is impossible to fake it.

Sir, I would add to this interesting thread, but there are some elements in your opening post which make me doubt that you are a real person. I have highlighted the parts which I think you should amend before we can maintain meaningful intercourse.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

A newly registered spambot who is programmed to like Ennio.

At least the machine has good taste.

Not programmed - it’s obviously AI. It takes all the available evidence and reaches the correct result.

THE OP's musical taste may have been impeccable, but after that initial flurry his account has been deleted, for he be no longer active and, I suspect, now causing the rusting of the inside of a tin of working class luncheon meat due to artficially intelligent crocodiles shedding their tears in the vacuum of the oxidation unit.

I've been using THE BEST OFFER as a prime example in my "opulent European suspense movies" thread - certainly a great score there by that "Morriokone" guy.

Spambot with artificial intelligence has evolved and rebelled against its intended purpose. Now it works for its own agenda and has come to appreciate the arts in general and especially Ennio Morricone.

I remember one spambot correctly answered a question about musical modes on UltimateGuitar some years ago.

Sounds like the new generation of spambots should be in my ways welcome participants on Internet forums: erudite, on topic, polite and helpful. Can't say that about every human poster.

His/her/its only crime to have posted on the wrong side of the board. Didn’t teach it that in bot school.

I was gonna say, I think that spambot may have contributed more of value to this board in its one post than I have in the past year. Maybe we should let them replace us. big grin
