If I recall, according to the liner notes in the 2-CD set, Kamen's contributions were more of a "sound design" approach and not orchestral, which differentiates it from Mancini's score overall. I think the Kamen cues were dropped into the shorter US theatrical edit to punch up or sweeten a few scenes, but nothing that had much musicality on their own. And I'm not throwing shade, as I certainly adore Kamen's own fully orchestral scores, but nothing, and I mean nothing, beats Mancini's awesome music for LIFEFORCE. EDIT - Sorry, that last statement sounds hyperbolic, I just meant within the movie itself, not across all of film music history!

If I recall correctly there was a lengthy, orchestral Kamen cue that is missing from the master that BSX used. That unreleased piece was used to replace much of Mancini's long "Discover suite". The pre-earth sequences were cut down a lot in the US version - I imagine they needed a new piece to help it flow better I'd love a good sounding release of Kamen's full contributions. Mancini's score is amazing, but there's always room for more Kamen on my playlist.
