Great news! The Bartok concerto is lovely. I’ve seen Miraculous Mandarin live as well as his Dance Suite. Bartok’s orchestration isn’t oft talked about but it’s as sophisticated as Ravel.
Unfortunately, I was under the weather and missed the Bartok piece, but I just saw the Sibelius Violin Concerto and Shostakovich's 5th, both conducted by Stephane Deneve with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. Both pieces were performed magnificently. The third piece was by James Lee III, who came out on stage after the performance. A young composer to watch.
