I'm thrilled that the local symphony will be back in the fall and are offering some good prices.

I selected three concerts and will be seeing four of my favorite classical works performed:

Shostokovich: Symp #5

Sibelius: Violin Concerto

Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade

Bartok: Concerto For Orchestra

The Bartok is one of my favourite classical pieces. Would love to see it performed live. Bluebeard's Castle is another of my favourites by him.

I am looking fwd to going to some concerts in the UK also and have a credit after the Spaghetti Western concert was cancelled last year.

Great news! The Bartok concerto is lovely. I’ve seen Miraculous Mandarin live as well as his Dance Suite. Bartok’s orchestration isn’t oft talked about but it’s as sophisticated as Ravel.

Unfortunately, I was under the weather and missed the Bartok piece, but I just saw the Sibelius Violin Concerto and Shostakovich's 5th, both conducted by Stephane Deneve with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. Both pieces were performed magnificently. The third piece was by James Lee III, who came out on stage after the performance. A young composer to watch.

So sad you missed the Bartok - it's a treat live (but what isn't).

The Sibelius and Shostakovich is a good pairing - I think I've seen/heard both live (with the Colorado Symphony).
