Toooo-nightttt, I celebrate my Love Field...for youuuuu Just had a blast through this and I'm happy to report it's a really great listen (that song refrain above notwithstanding). I now realise why I liked it so much before, even from the old 28 minute edition. Apart from the really great Assassination cue, parts of it remind me of G-older years JG (lots of RAGGEDY MAN and some WALTONS and EXPLORERS style moments) and also the lovelier bits of things like FOREVER YOUNG and SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY). It's also quite obvious Zimmer's DRIVING MISS DAISY was on the temp. It's definitely one of my favoured 90's/late years Goldsmith scores. Some of the new/unused tracks are also really nice. All of them actually. I didn't hear one duff track I would want to omit or skip. One jarring moment though, was when that bubbly synth (HOOSIERS-like) from the opening cue had all but disappeared!! I was so used to it from the old album. * So you can't ditch the old shorter Varese CD, cos the mix is quite different at times, with the synths (that we grew up with) dialled down somewhat and the orchestra much more at the forefront on this expanded edition. Still, that's no hardship, I suppose. Anyway, well done Varese, on a really cool release. Now...I return you to Peabo Bryson..."Tooo-nighttttt, I celebrate my Love..." *edit...I've just noticed patrick runkle above, missed that little bubbly synth moment in Family Album too.

Agreed! And I think aside from the lengthy "Lost Luggage", most if not all of the new cues fit that description! It's also quite obvious Zimmer's DRIVING MISS DAISY was on the temp. Actually I'm pretty sure you're wrong about this. The director Jonathan Kaplan revealed exactly what was in the temp, and we discuss it with notes writer Tim Greiving (who interviewed him) here in this podcast (the main part of which is only half an hour if you've got it to spare: https://goldsmithodyssey.buzzsprout.com/159614/9149827-odyssey-soundtrack-spotlight-love-field-1992 Tim brings up a kinship with Driving Miss Daisy and also Fried Green Tomatoes by Thomas Newman from the same era, and we play both of those...but as soon as we play the actual temp music (Dr. John) you'll quickly realize that it was the clear inspiration for Goldsmith's bluesy piano motif in the score. It's definitely one of my favoured 90's/late years Goldsmith scores. Some of the new/unused tracks are also really nice. All of them actually. I didn't hear one duff track I would want to omit or skip. Agreed! One jarring moment though, was when that bubbly synth (HOOSIERS-like) from the opening cue had all but disappeared!! Still, that's no hardship, I suppose. Since there was some room left on this disc, it would've been nice for Varese to include some of the most significantly different cues (in terms of mix) from the original album... but I guess you're right that the old album is readily available. I guess I'll have to wait for the Super Deluxe edition years from now. I don't want two separate CD's, with one being an old mastering.

We now have two examples of Varese further expanding a previous Deluxe Edition, Justin -- The Omen several years ago and now The Matrix. Do you really think Love Field is one they are likely to revisit a second time, just to add some alternate mixes? Yavar
