This, Spies Like Us and Ghostbusters were my introduction to Elmer Bernstein. Still 3 of my favorites

The Varése Sarabande CD release has obtrusive digital fuzz in the quiet spots, though it's still a.dynamic and engaging listen. It wouldn't surprise me if the new album is mostly derived from 35mm analogue backups, alá the recent Wrath of Khan release. Both scores were recorded in Hollywood within a year of each other. Both scores have previously had the pinched digital sound of the time.

I wonder what was missing from the Varese? Maybe alternates or unused cues? Very cool release in any case - like all Bernstein scores, it's quite wonderful and deserves a reissue/expansion. I'm sure that our friends at La La Land will be able to find something to add to it. Ford A. Thaxton
